Update 3!

Took Bimmer to the vet today and he got his second round of shots and a stool sample taken. Turns out he has Cicoida or something like that and we have him on 10 days of an oral drug to get rid of it. He's eating every two hours now and is back to his normal self.

I'm never having kids! I get so bent out of shape over this little guy that I don't know how I would survive with a human baby.

I am glad your vet caught that he has Coccidia. Alot of young pups get this but it does make them very sick and it is probably why you keep having the hypoglcemia problems. Now that he is on the meds he will probably get better real soon.

Yes, coccidia is common and he is probably on albon. Coccicidia are microscopic parasites and easily treatable. I am glad he is doing better.

As for the comment about kids..I have four and none of them ever had the issues my yorkies have had luckily. I think yorkies as young pups especially just have a lot that can go wrong what with the low blood sugar, the retained baby teeth, coccidia, LP, livershunt, etc.

My kids were a piece of cake so after your yorkie you are more than ready for human babies!! :D

I almost hate to ask, but I have to know what lies ahead. What is LP and what is the "retained baby teeth"? I'll be medicated or in a home before this guy is one year old. LOL! :)

First, glad your Bimmer is doing better. As for the sugar, I have just read an article about hypoglycemia and glucose(like in IV's) is best but honey is second. So, maybe a wee bit oh honey in his food and/or water would help. You didn't say the brand of kibble, but make sure it is softened for the little guy and feed the softened in addition to the free-feed 3 times a day. I feed with a little spoon that was my kids baby spoons and put at least 1/2 spoon full in the mouth just like a baby is fed. OOPS! I forgot you said you were not gonna have kids so scratch that last info. LOL If he gets very low, put Nutrical, my critters prefer NutriStat, along side the bottom of the tongue first. It absorbs from there more quickly. Then, a few little dabs in the roof of his mouth. Make sure he swallows it before you put the next round in. Water must be given too, so you can do that with a wee syringe or dropper-a drop at a time and make sure he swallows it. He can aspirate if you give it too fast.
Oh, and retained teeth. orkies have a habit of hanging onto to their baby teeth, especially the long ones on the sides..canines--- retained sounds fancier than they didn't lose all their baby teeth . They can be pulled when he is neutered. LP is luxating patellas-slipping kneecaps. Many toys breeds have them and they don't cause a problem as long as the dog is not obese, hyperactive and jumping a lot. It depends on the Grade-#1 is littlest bit; grade 4-5-6 is usually painful and the baby has to have surgery. Also, LP is used for LCP-Legg-Calvin-Perthes disease of the hip. That is a whole nuther thing..You have some time to lean about that. This is just a crash course of "Raising Tiny Baby Yorkies 101"
Now, don't go getting ahead of yourself..Get him straightened out and love the dickens out of that little guy. Most of us breeders have had to answer all the questions you asked but we did it before the puppy left us. You just have a bit of catching up to do. We are here to help..

Retained teeth are baby teeth that have not fallen out on their own.

LP can refer to two different situations. Legg-Calve Perthes Disease (Normal blood supply to the head of the femur bone is decreased, causing it to degenerate, weaken, and possibly collapse) or Luxating Pattella (The kneecap slips out of place)

My Schatzie was diagnosed w/ Legg-Calve Perthes and had surgery to correct.
