My Yorkies are 7 years I have two Yorkis Bailey and Mollie I have had them since they were pups. I am posting today because my Bailey boy is sick and I dot know what else to do. He has bee to the vet multiple times. He looks like he swallowed a bowling ball has went from 11 pounds two 17 in a matter of couple weeks. Blood test came back very low protein, albumin on special diet with lots of meds. Today he stopped eating I am on fixed income and I can't afford the 2,000 the vet needs for more tests. Can anyone tell me if I can do anything else I do not want him to suffer. I tried to post pics but it says file to big. |
Hi - welcome to YT, I'm sorry it's under these circumstances and am hoping for the best for your baby. What tests are being suggested and what does the vet suspect he has? You may want to explore these possibilities for help: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...vet-bills.html |
The vet wants to do an MRI, ultrasound to find out if something else is in his stomach like cancer. Right now he is treating his low albumin and protein levels causing Bailey to have fluid in his abdomen and hind quarters l |
I'm not a vet but I would have them check him for Cushing disease. I had dachshund who ended up have Cushing and he too looked like he swallowed a bowling ball and gained a tremendous amount of weight. The weight gain was mostly all in his stomach. Has Bailey lost any hair around the stomach or back area? Hershey was around 7 years old when he was finally diagnosed with it. Cushing disease is manageable with meds. |
Bailey my sick yorkie No hair loss at all. Vet thinks it's an intestinal problem, he said the bloating is due to low albumin level |
I'm sorry to hear about your baby. I don't know about his condition, but maybe you could try to apply for a Care Credit card? If you pay off the balance in the time they ask (usually about 1 year) there is no interest. However if you take longer than that to pay, the interest is high. Good luck with your baby. Worse case, if he needs immediate vetting as in life or death, you can try and contact a local rescue to take him. They will get him the vet care he needs, but that means you would be surrendering him. |

Is the vet treating him (w/ something like prednisone?) Did your vet recommend a low fat diet for him? |
Bailey The vet gave me a special canned food that will help raise his albumin levels and for his intestinal problem. Same with the meds, he is on very strong antibiotics, appetite enhancer. He ate pretty good for the first time in a couple days but then he threw up tonight. I can feel his bones on his spine and shoulder blades. He is seventeen pounds with the water weight but I know he is losing body mass. The vet wants me to wait a week but I can not watch him starve. Today was the first time he could not get down or up the stairs to go potty. I am dealing with multiple medical issues myself including five fractures in my back. I am on a fixed income now and it has taken every cent I had to get him seen four times, get meds, special food and I do not see any improvement. He is getting worse. I just do not know what to do. The vet wants to do an MRI but I do not have two thousand dollars. |

The vet is cash only, I tried that and I did not qualify for care credit. I am on a fixed income which barely pays my bills and medical. |
Go Fund Me and other sites like that won't work unless you have thousands of fans and followers. |
