Surgery or Not for ACL/CCL Knee Ligament Rupture Curious: Has anyone's small dog successfully healed from ACL/CCL knee ligament rupture without invasive surgery? I'm told that the ligament will never heal. My dog is currently on painkillers, anti-inflammatory meds and Syn Flex. He is scheduled for lateral suture surgery on Saturday. Accident happened on Thanksgiving when my dog was running alongside neighbor dogs and turned abruptly. A little yelp, and now he is mobile only on 3 legs.. I've had several consultations and several different recommendations: TOPL, Tightrope and Lateral Suture Technique. The best recommendation, I beleieve, after much research is to have the lateral- suture surgery done by a board -certified orthopedic surgeon. I am not choosing the tightrope (<40 lbs ) or TOPL (medium to large dogs) because my dog is only 13 lbs. Would appreciate responses if your dog has had experiences with this type of injury. |
Surgery is almost always the best option. Assuming your pup is not a major anesthetic risk I see no reason to avoid the procedure. And I personal agree with your lateral suture decision. |
