I found worms! I was brushing and trimming zoey hair. When I started brushing around her back end, and her back legs, 2 tiny worms fell out and one landed on my thumb nail. At first I thought it was a piece of rice or something until the "rice" expanded out into a long stringy worm! I freaked out and quickly threw them them both down the toilet. I looked all over her for wounds, small cuts, anything but I didn't see anything. I haven't noticed any worms in her poop either. She is on flea and tick prevention. OMG what could these worms be?! I'm so grossed out right now. |
Sounds like tape worms... I would bring fecal to vets. I had a foster once with tape worms...same thing happened to me discovered while brushing him...but I bagged up the "rice" and took to vet saved me the cost of a fecal .... |
I would defiantly take stool sample to the vet tomorrow. Some worms are not visible to the naked eye, can only been seen with micro-scope. Good luck. |

I had a dog once that someone dropped off at my house or they were going to put her to sleep....CJ....the day after she came "home" she had the spaghetti looking worms in her first BM, like a pile of them, it was both amazing and shocking, we all stared at each other, then the poop, then each other....no we didn't know anything about worms...YES we literally all piled in to the truck and went to the vet.... |
Omg....makes me *shudder*!!!!!!!!! You poor thing, you must've been so grossed out! There is something that just creeps me out beyond word about worms, UGH. I hope you're able to treat her and get rid of them asap, for your own peace of mind :)! |
They get tape worms from eating an infected flea, so they are not directly contagious to you or other dogs. Treatment is easy -- it's a choice between 2 pills or one shot. |
Update: I called the vet yesterday, explaining what I found, and my vet imediately said it was tapeworms. No vet visit needed. I needed to pick up her monthly prescription anyways yesterday, so he gave me a pill and a half for the tapeworm. Poor thing had the runs last night. |
