Iluvalldogs | 10-08-2014 10:26 PM | Another hernia! I say another hernia, but I'll clarify. Our Yorkie, October, had a very large hernia which we had repaired shortly after adopting her. October passed away last year, unexpectedly - not related to her hernia surgery which was several years prior to her passing.
Our new girl, Oli (we've had her since last May) also has a hernia, and I'm nervous and worried. Last Fall, I noticed she had a small hernia. We took her to the vet the next day and the vet said no surgery was needed at that time because it was really too small and it was what she considered a covered hernia (can't remember the exact medical terminology).
A few days ago, I noticed it was protruding which it normally does not do. From time to time, it will poke out but it will go right back in almost immediately. But this time, it isn't going back in and it appears larger than it did last year. I am so very worried. I'm a bit restless and need to get to bed actually, but will be back up at 7 to call our vet when they open so I can take her in right away and get medical advice on what we need to do.
Like all of you, I absolutely loathe having to give them anesthesia for surgeries and so that is my main concern with this. I fear she will need surgery, which stresses me out beyond belief. Last year, she did not need the surgery but obviously things can change, and so I am very worried she will need to have it repaired.
Oh well...I guess I will just have to wait and see. And worry myself sick, naturally. I'll be back once we get back from the vet later today! Thanks for letting me vent! |
