Can't keep food down. Cerulean is sick again and this time worst than the last. From the looks of his bed he spit up a little this morning but did #1 normally then ate breakfast fine. After breakfast he peed and played like normal. It wasn't until his accident on the carpet that I got concerned. Runny poop which looked liked the kibble he had just eaten at breakfast. An hour later he threw up white frothy stuff. I figured his stomach was upset again so back to chicken, rice and pumpkin. He ate every single drop and immediately threw it all back up. Called the vet but they can't take him and the emergency hospital in my area doesn't open until 6. Going to call another vet in the meantime. I looked up his symptoms and it said worms, I was late giving him his Revolution treatment. Could that be it? Any suggestions??? |
I'm really surprised his vet won't see him....I would find a new vet!! If he's vomiting what he eats my opinion would be stop giving him food right now and get him to a vet asap. It could be any number of things. |
If they were a bad vet office I would but I love it there and this is the first time I've had a problem getting him in. I was able to get him an appt for this afternoon at the vet in my neighborhood. |
I'm glad you found a vet to see him today. How late were you with Revolution? I believe all of the heartworm/worm meds can go a little longer than 4 weeks. Could be any number of things. Let us know what the vet says. I think I would be inclined to request a test for pancreatitis since he was recently ill. Best wishes for your little guy. |
His appt is at 2:50 but thinking I should wait for his vet tomorrow. Only because I don't know them, they don't know my baby and their Google reviews suck. I take my guinea pigs there for a nail trim and that's it. His last treatment was in August, I kept forgetting to go pick it up. I finally picked it up last week and forgot again until this morning. I feel so bad! He just went potty a few minutes ago and had a normal bm. I'm wondering if it could be the C.E.T. dental chew I gave him last night. Hoping it's nothing too serious. |
I would not wait. It's unusual in my opinion that your regular vet would not get you in and that would worry me. Mine has had many emergency trips to the vet and they have always gotten me in even on super busy days. Not being able to count of your vet can be scary. Considering he was just sick and is sick again I'm thinking maybe some more testing is nessisary. |
I was able to get him into to his vets office, didn't see his vet though. The reason they weren't able to take him on an emergency basis is because the vet (there's only one) had a family emergency and they had to bring in the on call dr. When I called back in the afternoon they had a 3 pm appt open so I took him. Because of the doctor change they were really backlogged. Anyway, Cerulean apparently only had another upset stomach. After explaining the events of the day and going over his upset stomach from last week the dr concluded he just has another upset stomach. We think the culprit is the enzymatic dental chew because both times this has happened was after a chew the night before. I asked about pancreatitis and he said Cerulean would be much worse than he was if that was the case. Since he is playing and actually has a desire to eat he said those are all good things. Doc gave him a shot to ease his stomach and instructed me to give him the tiniest dose of Pepcid I've ever heard of. Poor baby had to wait until 8 to dinner but I gave in and gave it to him at 8. I couldn't take the sad hungry eyes anymore. He ate it all and so far it's staying down. The doc said that some yorkies have sensitive stomachs and its looking like mines is one of them. |

Be careful with the CET chews. I use them for my boys, but I try not to let them swallow any part of it, although the company says they are digestible. They are rawhide. Teddy gets pieces here and there. Max had an irritated throat once that I think may have been caused by spending too much time with the chew -- we ended up in the ER because I thought he was choking, he was hacking badly and in distress. Glad Cerulean is doing better. :) |
