dog leaks pee Sorry.... I posted this under "health" too, I didn't see "sick & injured." He's 9 months old. He's potty trained. But he seems to leak pee. It looks like it catches him off guard and he then licks his you know what, then licks where he leaked....that's how I find out it happens. Then I take him out and he pees the rest. Some weeks he's fine, then all the sudden it happens again for a week or so. If he leaks on the kitchen floor, he'll lick it up. (he'll also eat his poop) Any thoughts? |
Eating his poo isn't as concerning as the leaking urine....have you had him to the vet or taken a urine sample in? That could be an indicator of a uti....or some other urinary issue. U can get a powder to put on his food To discourage that. Or pick it up as soon as he goes to keep it from happening. But I would try to get him vetted ASAP for the urine leakage.... |
He needs to be seen by the vet ASAP for the leaking urine issue. As for the poop eating that can be fixed but I think you need to concentrate on the medical issue first. The poop eating can be address later. |
Teddy my 10 week old got caught eating his poo the other day, it was easy to get him to stop. Just had to loudly say no and clap my hands doing that got his attention away from his poop. For the leaking of pee, I'd say he could probably have a UTI. I'd definitely check with your vet. |

I never heard of a dog lapping up his urine, but your vet knows best. Poop eating seems to be common, although not a healthy thing,and can be controlled even stopped, I have been through that. Good luck |
Honestly....leaking urine is not normal....it almost seems as he licks it up out of anxiety or embarrassment. Does the urine leak when he's sleeping or just sitting there....uncontrollable? When he's excited? Like when you've just gotten home? |
just when he's walking across the room. Then he'll stop and try to catch it. Then lick up the little bit on the carpet or kitchen floor. When I see it happen I say "do you have to go potty?' and he'll go to the door and he'll pee a lot outside. But normally he just goes to the door to tell me he has to go out. Sometimes I'll take him out and literally an hour later he'll say he has to go out and sometimes I take him and he just drips and other times I tell him it's too soon and he doesn't need to. Then sometimes he's fine and we'll go out an hour after that and other times he'll dribble a little in the house. It has to be ridiculous to go out every hour from 6:30am-9:30pm. I also might add, he's crated from 8:15am-6:45pm. Mon and Tues I go home at lunch at 2pm to let him out and Wed and Thurs he holds it. And he does, so I know he can. He goes weeks without doing it and weeks doing it. |
Wow its definately mysterious.....does he drink a lot of water? Truth....if I were you I would get a second opinion. There could be something causing him to have to go so often....and the leaking is not normal. Especially if he goes so frequent and is able to hold it most of the time. Poor little guy....In the mean time you could try a boy diaper for him while he's inside. I called it a weenie bikini ....I'm sure there's a proper name for it!! But I would try to find a vet that has experience with small dogs even yorkies specifically. He's so young....it could be anything. |

My Mom's dog did the leak urine. The told her it was nothing, but two years later, the leak turned red. He had stones. Terriers are prone to stones. |
can i do anything to prevent it now? or do i just have to wait? maybe pet ins then? |
do you know if they checked his urine for crystals? I know when my boss would get a urine sample he would check it with the test strip but also the specific gravity and put it on a slide and check under the scope. it may be common practice to do but you could ask if you are not sure. its tough call because he needs to still be on puppy food...there are specific foods for urinary tract health, but i would not advise it without a vet saying its necessary. i really would strongly suggest taking him to a different vet for a second opinion and really expressing your concern for him....sometimes we have to be annoying haha but we are the ones who are with them on a daily basis...and vets are human too so they are not always right!! ;-) |
idk, I assume they just checked for a uti. Maybe he is just rebelling and I need to repotty train him. idk. I've never owned a dog before. |
I give him tap water (I refill a water bottle and leave it in the fridge so when I fill up his water bowl it's nice and cold). Maybe I should buy distilled? Or is that going overboard? |

This may sound weird but 845-615 is a long time for a small dog to hold it. maybe he is having anxiety over the fact some days he gets to go and others he cant. May be its causing havoc to his bladder. It sounds like he doenst want you to see it or he wouldnt lick it up. If he was being a testy teenager he would leave it for you. Have you thought of a pee pad in his crate while your gone? Or get an ex pen and put a pee pad in it? If he can go as he wants to maybe he wont "leak" anymore. |
I trained him to go outside. I've recently tried the pee pad and he won't do it. He's always leaked, it comes and goes. idk. |
