Sick Yorkie? Hi everyone! I am new to this forum. I just noticed that my yorkie has an extremely swollen stomach. This just happened in the last few days. She has been different in behavior, more distant and to herself. her stomach is tight ad firm to the touch and im terribly concerned. Taking her to the vet in the morning, but wanted to see if anyone had feedback or know of any possible causes. Thanks |
Hello, and welcome to yorkietalk. You need to get your yorkie to the vet asap. It could be something life threatening. A swollen belly could indicate congestive heart failure, liver disease or kidney failure. How old is your yorkie? If it is a female has she been spayed. |
Hi and welcome to YT. So sorry your little one isn't feeling well. I'm super glad you're taking her to the vet bc a swollen tummy not only feels miserable, but it could be very serious. It could be something quite minor, but it could also be something more serious like an obstruction or something going on w/ one of the internal organs. |
Glad to see you are taking her to the vet today. Hopefully it's just constipation. Please update us after her vet visit. |
Sending prayers that it turns out to be something minor. Please update as soon as you can. |
I am seeing from your post this has already been going on for several days.....the thing about these Yorkies is they can do downhill so very quickly....it is always best to err on the side of caution.....several posts have already outlined numerous possible causes for this issue....be sure you get something definitive from your vet tomorrow....and if your vet is not able to give you a diagnosis, then get a referral to a specialist. I do not like sitting around and watching and waiting for something to happen.....tell me what is wrong, and start treatment. An abdominal series will tell you if there is excessive air in the intestines, which is indicative of bowel obstruction, etc..... Is baby pooping? passing gas?? Is abdomen tender? |
