Mickey is sick All he wants to do today is sleep. I got him to eat a little bit but not much. He was outside playing this morning but wouldn't eat anything this morning or at noon. It is 106 here today and it is 93 in my house(RV) so maybe he is just too warm? He did drink a little water after lunch time. Any ideas what I can do for him? My vet will be open tomorrow. |
Hi There, This is just my idea but it does seem that it is way too warm for him at 93 inside and when he was outside in the heat of 106. Can't you cool the RV down to see if he feels better in the cooler air? Not real cool but maybe set the thermostat at 77 degrees. If this doesn't help then I guess seeing the vet may be a good idea. In all that heat I doubt he wants to eat. Is he drinking water? He definitely needs to have enough water in that heat. Hope he will be alright. |
Take a rectal temp and see what his core temp is....if he is overheated, you can wet him down and put a fan on him. You must keep him hydrated in the heat.....outside as well as the inside temp of 90*+......how in the world do YOU tolerate that heat???? Do YOU have a fan that you can at least move air over yourself? I am worried about YOU too!!! |
Awww - I hope he's feeling better soon and that he's just feeling too warm to want to exert himself. I know I'm like that in the heat. |

The reason it was so hot was the air conditioner had blown the circuit and it got unbearable in the 2 minutes that I had to wait for it to restart. Most of the time it is only 82 or so in here. Pretty comfortable with the fans. |
update Mickey is back to normal this a.m. eating and playing. The vet thinks it was the Pro-Plan puppy food that I switched him to a couple days before. Our little malti-poo also got sick on the food. We put them both back onto Royal Canin this morning and they seem to be much better. Thanks for all your help. |
Well, Mickey is back to not eating today. We are taking him to the vet this afternoon. He just lays around sleeping and is very clingy to me today. His poo is also very small strings of it with a dark color. of course the dark color is probably from the treats I give him to try to stimulate his appetite. Anyway I hope there is nothing seriously wrong. I love him so much and he is the perfect little puppy. |

How is Mickey today? |
Mickey is feeling a little better. He got some special food to eat yesterday and ate some of that. Today at noon he actually seemed to be a little hungry and ate his Royal Canin. He is a wonderful eater and not in the least picky so you can understand my worry about him not eating anything. Anyway, hopefully he will now just go back to eating well and staying that way. He is also playing today so that is a good sign. Thank you so much for asking. |
I know Buster hates the heat. This weekend I went to go outside with him for a quick pee break and he barely got outside and sat down and looked at me like are you crazy Mom. He peed and then went to the door to be let back in. The heat here in CA has been like being in a convection oven this week. I hope Mickey is feeling better soon. Did you bring in a stool sample. I know when Buster had dark stringy poop he was having stomach/pancreatitis issues. Best wishes and cool breezes to you and Mickey. |
I'm glad Mickey is doing better. |

Puppy's are stressful! I'm constantly worrying about mine. Like over the top... worrying - lol. I'm so happy to hear that he's feeling a little better! :) |
He is throwing up bile this morning. I can't figure out what is going on with him. He wouldn't eat anything this morning so after he threw up and I gave him a little Pepto and then some chicken. He ate a tsp of that and that is all. |
So sorry to hear that your Dudley is having some troubles. I am no expert in any fashion but sending positive thoughts to you and Dudley. I sure hope that it can be resolved soon and that you'll have your little boy back to his usual self! |

Well, I went to a different vet today with Mickey. He did an x-ray to see if he had a blockage, which he didn't. He did see a lot of gas in his intestines and a little food in his stomach, probably the bits of chicken. He gave him a shot for the gas and a shot to increase his appetite. Also some pills to give him for the stomach in case his stomach is having acid problems and pills for appetite also. We are hoping for the best but after 4 more hours he still hasn't eaten. Please know that I do so appreciate you people here on this forum. I don't feel so alone with you here. I will keep you informed. |
Buster was avoiding his food so I ended up getting an allergy panel and he was allergic to a lot of the food I was feeding him like chicken, turkey, duck, fish and more so it might be allergies. It might also be colitis as Silver Lace suggested because that occurred to Buster and I was thinking of mentioning that to you when you described his stools. I hope Mickey is feeling better soon. |
I am so sorry that after taking him to yet another vet and getting all the meds for him and the x ray and all that he is still not eating. It sure seems to be a puzzle and I hope it gets cleared up soon. How old is he and what does he weigh? If you said so in one of your earlier posts I have forgotten. I am so glad you will keep us informed of the situation with him. I hope only the very best outcome for Mickey and for you as I know you must be so concerned as I was with my Joey. If you have any try getting him to take some honey or syrup to keep up his strength some. I wish I knew more to tell you to help out. God's blessings on you both. |
Well he ate breakfast this morning. I have given him his medicines already and hoping this will continue. I did give him Karo syrup and Nutrical to keep his strength up a little. He is 20 weeks old and weighs 5 pounds. This is one time that I am glad that he is a chubby little thing. |
I sure hope things turn around. Thank you for keeping us informed. Really appreciate your taking the time to do so. All the best to you both. |
Sending prayers for Mickey. How is he doing now? |
I think we are over whatever was wrong with Mickey! He is his happy little self this morning and ate his breakfast, gobbling it up like he used to. He has been playing all morning and enjoying life with our little 2 month old malti-poo puppy I am so glad to see him back again! Thank you so much, all of you, for the well wishes and encouragement. |
Mickey So happy for the positive update and hearing that he is feeling better today. He probably ate something he should not have…as pups do…and that he is over it now. Stay well little Mickey. :-) |
I am so relieved to hear how well Mickey is doing today. Makes my heart glad. When I was a girl I had a dog named Mickey. Just now thought of that. Hope he stays well and happy. I know you must be so very pleased to see him be his old playful self. |
Great news I am so glad Mickey is back to his playful self. |
So happy and relieved for Mickey and, of course, for yourself, that he is currently back to normal. He must be so happy that he has you in his court! Always nice to get wonderful news:) Cheers and here's hoping things continue being positive. Best thoughts and hugs from Canada. |
dog My JoJo was throwing up bile this am. It is warm in our house. I wonder if he just can't take the warm air. Every so often he has a bout of this. I give him bland diet of boiled chicken and rice. When he keeps that down and seems better, back on the Wellness food. |
Mickey is still doing well. I am so happy that he feels better. Thank you all for the good wishes. He is my little lovebug. |
dog So glad Mickey is better. JoJo is eating chicken and rice and seems to be ok. I am getting some Science Diet ID also for him. He will eat that until his stools are back to normal. You have a poodle! I had poodles. I love them and of course Yorkies! |
