Collapsed Trachea Hi, I am new. Found out yesterday my 8yr old baby has a sedvere collapsed trachea. Found this out with new vet, old vet just kept giving steroids and she just kept getting bigger. New vet took xray (what a concept) and told me of severity. Going for fluroscopy, etc. I have been reading the internet and am scaring myself. Suggestions on excellent surgeons in Texas. Ideas, etc. Help I'm scared. |
Hi and welcome to YT. I am sorry that your 8 year old baby has collapsed trachea. I will ask some of the more knowledgeable members of YT to help you with your questions. Hugs to you. |
I know a YT member LadyJane who is involved with Yorkie Haven Rescue and many YT members rave about Gulf Coast Specialists. They are an incredible place and have saved many a sick Yorkie. It may be a drive but the really understand Yorkies. Home |
I am so sorry your baby is so ill. Does she have a lot of coughing and/or difficulty breathing where she needs oxygen treatments? There are many medications to try that I would frankly do before surgery. From my understanding the surgery has about a 75% success rate and that is for a survival rate of about a year. It is not a permanent fix. It is not an option I have ever wanted to go with. Of course it is an individual thing, but I strongly suggest a couple of opinions on it. As Buster Brown said, Gulf Coast Veterinary Surgeons down here in Houston are amazing; but I do know that there are specialists in the DFW area. I am just not familiar with them. Prednisone is a treatment but there are other meds to try...what has been tried so far? |
I had a maletese that had severe CT at age 8. She kept fainting from it. I never gave her medicine because back then they said she was having seizures. She did live to 12 years old with it. Hers was severe because her heart was enlarged and pressing on it. Does your dog have an enlarged heart. What is causing the collapse? |
