how to get him to stop licking his sore 3 Attachment(s) Barney had a sore Saturday evening. We went to the vet Tuesday (he was out of town at a meeting Monday) to find out what happened. He thought it is a bug bite of some sort. He put him on antibiotics and gave him the cone of shame. We can't leave him at home during the day with the cone on because I'm afraid he'll get hurt. Now, his leg looks even worse. How do you keep your pups from licking at sores? |
Yes you can leave him home alone with the cone of shame. Gate him in a room or use an xpen. Leave the cone on him for 24hrs even with you home and you will see how fast he adjusts. It is very important to keep a not so bad situation from becoming a bad situation. Good Luck and don't worry so much, these little ones adjust quickly and that wound will heal quickly with the cone in place. Keep us posted. |
Thanks for the advice. I'm having a more difficult time to get my husband and son (20--knows EVERYTHING) to leave the cone on him than I am getting Barney to wear it. He sadly accepts his fate when I put it on, but then one of the weak hearted men will free him. I wrapped it in gauze and a bandage last night. Will unwrap and resume the cone today. |
poor barney, hope he is better soon, they look so sad in those things, remember when chester had to wear one, broke my heart |
hmmm. pajamas with feet in them??? :D |
Pajamas are a great idea. I may look into ordering them. However, I am hoping that he will heal more quickly than they could be delivered. I took him out for a long session of Frisbee this morning thinking he would get too tired to lick. Wrong. He has a licker problem. |
