Amputate Infected rear paw 1 Attachment(s) I'm new to this board and very emotional! I have a 10 yr., yorkie and approx. 3 weeks ago I noticed she was licking her back right paw. I looked at it and immediately I scooped her up and went to the Vet ER room. The nail was dead and it caused an infection. It was swollen as you can see. She was placed on antibiotic and pain meds the nail removed and packed with antibiotic. She has not had a fever or lost her appetite. The vet she may have to have an amputation. Fast forward today, the last 2 days her toe started to look to same as when I took her in the first time! The picture was taken today. The vet took an xray and we found out that her bone on her paw was not there. The vet showed me the xray was I was advised that they amputate that toe. Has anyone ever had this with their baby? She warned me that it might be cancerous, this procedure will relieve her pain! If I can have a couple more years I will be happy, as long as she is not in pain. |
Hi and Welcome to YT... I believe there was a thread about something similar on this board... wishing you and your little one the best.. |
Hi and welcome to YT :). So sorry to hear your little one is in pain and may need a toe amputated, how scary and worrisome! I so hope it's not cancerous or anything. I haven't personally had to deal w/ anything like this, but I just want to wish you and your kiddo the very best and I hope for the best outcome. Perhaps having this surgery will be the only thing she needs to get all fixed up. When are you having the surgery? |
I am so sorry. Here is a link with information about this. I had a pup with melanoma years ago and had saved this link because it explains the different types. Hers was on the skin and not malignant. The National Canine Cancer Foundation - Melanoma- Melanocytic tumors Keep us posted please....I will say a prayer for your pup.... |
Results I received my baby's pathology report on her amputated toe! It was squamous cell carcinoma of the toe! They believed to have removed it all! They are going to check to see how the lymph nodes are doing. I'm so happy they're supposed to have gotten it all! Is this common? She is cancer free just let me, we are cancer survivors! |
I'm so sorry you & your baby are going through this. That toe looked so painful. I'm so glad the pathology looks good so far. Sending prayers the lymph node tests are good as well! |
oops, forgot to say welcome to YT! |
So glad the surgery is over and they think they have it all. Praying that the lymph nodes are clear. Please keep us posted. |
