Lump on Hind Leg? Hey everyone. Sorry I'm new to this forum so I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the correct location. But I figured it'd be okay since it was part of health. I was giving my 7 year old Yorkie a shower today and I noticed a white lump on her hind leg. This is what it looks like: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...C/IMAG4894.jpg. I was wondering if anyone knows what it is. Is it just a benign cyst? I talked to my vet before about lumps and he says it's common for older dogs to grow benign lumps. It doesn't seem to bother her so I'm just keeping an eye out for it. If conditions get worse or anything, I plan on taking her to the vet next week. But I just wanted to know if anyone else had encountered this with their yorkies? Thanks! :) |
Hi and welcome to YT. I think you should post this in the sick and injured section to get more help. I am not sure what it is but I will ask the more knowledgeable members to check this out. |
Welcome to Yorkie Talk. Benign lumps are common, but I would have it biopsied to be sure. If your baby has to be under anesthesia to do this, you could combine the trip with a dental cleaning, if she needs it. Capt Noonie, Priscilla's Uni has had a couple of biopsies done and they came back clean. I'm not sure if they were all done under anesthesia or needle aspiration while awake. I will message her to come and comment here. |
I've had my old jack russell develop a bump but it got to the size of a large silver dollar within a month or two, and she was very sensitive to it. This was a year or two ago and recently I've seen bumps like the one you showm and they haven't gotten much bigger. With the larger one, we had given her surgery and according to the vet it was a form of cancer, but she seemed very optimistic that it won't come back, just need to keep an eye on it. So I'd watch for an increase in size and sensitivity. but it wouldn't hurt to check or have it removed anyways, just to be sure. |
Yeah Uni had several weird bumps biopsied. It was done while she was awake and in front of me actually. She didn't cry out in pain. She was a brave girl. :) after a few times, the vet told me only to biopsy again if it was significantly different than her other onrs. It cost about $100 each time, that's including the testing. |
Sophie Kate just had 4 Sebaceous Cyst removed (along with her dentals). They all started out as lumps on her in the last year. Every time I found a new one I would have it tested. As mentioned the test was not painful, they did it while I was in the room where they would extract some cell samples of the lump. |
Benign lumps are not all that uncommon, but it's always good to have them looked at and checked. It may just be a follicular or sebaceous cyst, both of which are quite common. Please let us know what happens with it. Also, I'll move your thread to the Sick forum where it will get better attention given the subject. :) |
Uni's were follicular cysts. Forgot to mention that. |
Looks like the same bumps my 14 year old gets - we biopsied a few of his and they were benign growths known as sebaceous hyperplasia. You could have it taken off and sent to a lab to know for sure. |
