Not so good news Well just got back from the vet for Prada's follow up exam for her leg. The meds had no affect on her. She's still limping sometimes on the leg. The next step is an Orthopedic specialist. The vet said she thinks it may be Aseptic Necrosis. Anyone has any experience with Aseptic Necrosis? |

Was she on cortisone? in this article it is one of the causes. I know I took cortisone for my knees for a while and it caused me permanent issues. I would see an Orthopedist as soon as possible as it says the treatment options are dependent on the progress of the necrosis. I hope the outcome is good. |

I'm so sorry please keep us updated. I am keeping her in my prayers. |
I'm so sorry. I pray they are wrong and it is something that can be cured quickly. |
I am sorry about Prada....contact your breeder....this could be secondary to LCP. "Aseptic necrosis is a bone condition that results from poor blood supply to an area of bone, causing localized bone death. This is a serious condition because the dead areas of bone do not function normally, are weakened, and can collapse. Aseptic necrosis is also referred to as avascular necrosis or osteonecrosis." Avascular necrosis is LCP disease. |
What is avascular necrosis? Avascular necrosis is a condition that occurs when bone tissue dies because of too little blood supply. With avascular necrosis, the bone eventually collapses after tiny breaks occur. In most cases, the condition affects the thighbone (femur) in the hip area, but it can affect other bones in the body. These areas include the wrist, knee, and shoulder. Avascular necrosis gets worse with time. The condition is also called osteonecrosis, aseptic necrosis, or ischemic bone necrosis. FHO surgery is the recommended procedure. Excellent results from the procedure , followed by a good therapy program. Probably need to be consulting a specialist now for the surgery, and be sure you contact the breeder....the breeder needs to know her breeding pair threw this! |
I am keeping lil Prada in my prayers. (((hugs))) |
Yes, it is better known as Legg Calve Perthes and as mentioned, you should let the breeder know about this! I don't understand why this was not seen on xray....no need to guess about a diagnosis. That is confusing to me. Definitely glad you are going to a specialist! |
Oh, and if this is the diagnosis and she needs surgery, I have had a few go through it and all went well. There are also some other YT members who have had this surgery done on their pups. :) |

This condition is clearly evident on xray, especially by the time they are limping from it....early stages, the bone looks like it is riddled with tiny little holes all up around the "ball" of the femur, where it goes into the socket of the hip bone. |
Just checking in for any updates....what did the breeder tell you about this issue with your pup? This is not a life threatening condition, but I feel like any reputable breeder will certainly help you with this situation. |
No update yet. Breeder not responding to calls, text or emails. I'm so upset right now. Been looking into the cost of surgery and seems I may be looking at around $3000 which is way more that I can cover right now. I'm stressing about my next step. I will continue to update when I have more info. |
I am so sorry to hear this about your baby. I have Prada in my prayers. |
So sorry for poor little Prada, you're in our prayers for a good outcome. |

After what I saw happen with that "gofundme" thing for that yorkie here in Dickenson....attacked by neighbors dog, collected almost $30,000.00 for the medical care, surgery and therapy for little Ezio! That is amazing to me! I have no idea how that works.....I think you post your story, put the goal/amount you need for the emergency surgery, and people are touched and donate to your cause. Good luck with your baby....I would DRIVE to the breeders house and talk to her....she may make herself unavailable to reach by phone....you know her name, track her down....make her as accessable to you as she was when she was selling you that puppy. |
How's it going? |
Any update? |
Praying for your little girl. Hannah had LCPD Surgery last December and you can barely tell. Recovery took longer than Hannah & I would have liked but she's unstoppable now. |
What was decided for this pup? Update please. |
