Vomitting and won't eat Ceeby ate something that made him sick for dinner last night. He seemed fine when I went to bed about ten thirty. He ate some more dog food right before that. This morning, I saw where he had diarreha once on his pad and I sat down on the couch and sat my butt in a pile of vomit. It had dog food and carrots in it. We got ready to go to church and he started dry heaving really. We have given him pepto twice and Nutrical once already today. No change. He is curled up in my lap. I cooked chicken breast, Won't eat. I don't feel he is as sick as he was the last time when he nearly died but it is so worrisome. We ended up not going to church so we could nurse him. I will call the vet if he gets worse. Our vet is great and will come in today if needed. I am going to give him some pedialyte here in a little bit. Is that still good or does it go bad? It is what I bought Thanksgiving. It has been in the fridge. Thanks |
Vomiting/diahrrea Once you open it pedialyte is only good for about 3 days. Throw it out and buy a new one. I always keep a couple of new ones in the cupboard. Once it is opened, keep in fridge. Is he shaking at all? Is temp normal? To check for dehydration, pull the skin up in the area between the shoulders. It should snap back. If it slides back slowly he could be suffering dehydration and should go to the Vet. They can either put fluid injected under the skin or if serious enough, put him on IV as giving him water or pedialyte won't work if he can't keep it down. You don't want to be feeding him anything too hard to digest. The best thing now is to try a little pedialyte, see if he keeps it down. If he does after about an hour or so, try a little cooked rice with a little boiled chicken. Also the liquid from boiled pot barley will help diahrrea and vomiting problems. Don't give him his regular dog food or carrots for about a day or two until he is back to normal. |
I wish I could help, but I just wanted to say I'm so sorry Ceeby doesn't feel well. :( I hope he gets better really soon! |
I would call the vet immediately!! Did you feed people food last night? |

You can give 3 ccs of keopectate for the diahrea thats what the vet said I could give to my pup. Other than that I would try to get some pedalite down so he doesnt dehydrate. Good luck. |
Vomiting/diahrrea Pork products are just about the worst for Yorkies. Your little guy obviously cannot handle it at all. Often feeding any kind of pork products will result in a pancreatitis which may be what your little guy had a mild case of. You must be very careful what you feed and the pancreatitis can make them very sick and can be lethal. Beef and chicken don't usually have that kind of effect but some dogs can be allergic to one of these and problems can result. |
i think he is a little better. he ate two or three bites of chickewn just now and chewed on his chewstick. he will not be getting anymore tablr food no matter how loud he cries. |
Sugar's Mom Glad the little guy is improving. A little table food is fine as long as you are careful what it is. Chicken, boiled rice, a little carrot are just fine. But never anything fatty or greasy and especially any of the pork products. Actually I have the Natural Balance in a roll that looks like a big sausage. I slice a bit and give them a bit of that. It is a dog food, won't hurt them, and they think they are getting a special treat. I have only given the Beef one, I haven't tried the Turkey or Lamb one. |
After Mojo's stomache episode this past week, I am very strict as to what I (or anyone gives him)...my husband too if the worst! He says that it is too hard to say no to that face....I just tell him to remember those vet bills he just paid and the mental ward bills he would have to pay if anything happened to Mojo!!!! ---that made it a little easier for him! HA! |
Pork Equals Ill Puppy!!! Quote:
I hope your baby is better i read this and when i saw pork it was very clear to me Pork is soooooooooooooooooooooooooo BAD for any dogs but yorkies would have a serious reaction to it. Please avoid the chicken also unless its the breast meat only. the other parts of the chicken are to high in animal fat and will make the poohhhhhh worse. Try boiling some beef hamburger and put alittle sea salt in it so it will help his thirst reaction. I hope he is well soon. |

This is an exerpt from Dr. Andrew Jones located in Nelson, BC Canada. He wrote a book called 'Veterinary Secrets Revealed', you'll find it at http://www.veterinarysecretsrevealed.com Gastrointestinal. A common problem for pets is vomiting and diarrhea. Any vomiting pet must be evaluated for dehydration. If your pet is profusely vomiting ( ie every few hours), then they are getting dehydrated and need veterinary care. If your pet is still consuming water and occasionally vomiting, then you can try some of the home remedies. Two home remedies that are effective include HOMEOPATHIC and HERBAL remedies. Nux Vomica is an effective homeopathic remedy for vomiting. Give 1 tablet of the 30C strength per 40lbs once daily for 3-5 days. GINGER. A tasty addition for a curry is also effective for vomiting. The dried herb dose is 25mg per lb or 1 drop per lb twice daily of the tincture Diarrhea can be caused by a number of different things, from garbage, to parasites, to infectious agents (such as parvovirus). Most cases of diarrhea respond to symptomatic treatment at home. The most effective one is 24 HOUR FAST. Stop putting food into your pet for 24 hours (Day 1). This allows the intestines to rest and regenerate. Always have access to plenty of fresh water. After 24 hours introduce a bland food for the next 24 hours (Day 2). Plain white cooked rice for dogs, feeding equivalent cups of rice as their normal diet. |
