Seizure? Help!!! We let Bentley out back with out boxer and dachsund. We went out with them to check on our veggie garden. Out boxer is very hyper and bounds around playing. She ran into Bentley while running to the back fence. I saw Bentley fall over and thought she knocked him over but then he started rolling oddly. I went to pick him up and he was flopping. My husband ran over and held him and pet him. He stopped but during must have bit his tongue. He's laying with me now on the couch. He's acting totally normal. I plan to call the vet in the morning. I'm keeping an eye on him though and will call the ER vet if he starts acting odd. We have been at the lake all weekend (got back today). Is it possible that he got too hot while camping and caused this? I'm not even sure it was a seizure! My husband thinks he was rolling because he hurt his mouth when she ran into him. However, I'm pretty certain it was a small seizure. His mouth is fine. No more bleeding. I think he bit hit tongue during like I said. What should I do?! I'm freaking out. Is waiting until tomorrow a bad idea? Like I said, he's acting completely normal now. I'm so confused and scared as this has never happened before. Btw, he is 5lbs and 4 years old. Thank you for any advice. |
Very scary! Poor Bentley. To be honest, if I were in your shoes, I would be at the ER. If this were brought on by heat, he could still be in need of IV hydration and meds. If it was something caused by your Boxer running into him, he could be injured, more than just his tongue. I would not let your smaller dogs run free with your Boxer in the future. Too much risk for injury. Praying for Bentley. |
Oh no, he certainly won't be going out with her anymore. She meant no harm. She loves him but her being as clumsy as she is, I can't risk it. They can play inside. Inside she lays to play with him so she doesn't hurt him. Thank you. I think I'll give the ER vet a call. Better to be safe. |

I understand your Boxer meant no harm. It is just the clumsiness. |
How is Bentley doing? |
Any follow up? |
Bentley is doing fine. He had blood work and subQ fluids. The vet wants me to keep an eye on him. If he has another one we'll be doing more tests. He now goes outside by himself. |
Glad to hear that Bentley is doing better. Poor little guy. Good job mom for taking him to the vet! |
I hope your Bentley will be doing all right. My Bentley has a Boxer brother too (Baxter) and when Baxter got bigger than Bentley he would run so fast I was afraid of him bumping into Bentley. I won't risk Baxter running into Bentley so they are never outside loose in the yard. Want to add Boxers are great dogs and the ones I have had wouldn't hurt another animal intentionally. I had one many years ago with a litter of kittens crawling all over him and he didn't mind at all. |
So glad your little guy is doing better. I agree about boxers, they are such wonderful dogs. Our son had one who thought she was a puppy the whole 2 years he had her (someone stole her :(). He has one now who is the same way. They just don't realize how much bigger than our little ones they are and want to be best buds. |
