Skin bumps - dark, not red or flaky Hello All, I just found this website through a Google search for Yorkie skin problems. I registered, and here I am, thank you for having me! My Scooter has bumps on her back. Nothing on her belly or chest. They aren't red and flaky. They are dark, some look like moles and some have a smooth surface so I know they aren't warts. She has had them for years, the vet and groomer have always said they're just bumps, nothing to worry about because they don't grow, get infected, or excrete anything. They don't seem to bother her, she doesn't scratch and chew, but that is partly because she can't reach most of them. I keep her hair extremely short because we live in Texas out in the country and she loves being outside. It also makes it easy to keep an eye on the bumps and check for fleas. I have tried many different shampoos and home remedies, but nothing changes. Secondly, she is overweight and can't seem to lose even one ounce. I have her on Purina Light & Fit, and as I said, she is outside a lot and gets plenty of exercise, she is very active. I apologize for throwing all this out at once, but I'm hoping to receive some insight on Scooter's issues. Thank you for your time! |
My Blazer's mom- Abby- has bumps, too. The vet says they are just skin tags and most of them aren't bothersome. There is one on her rump, though, that concerns me- sometimes you can squeeze out thick white gunk. The vet still says there is nothing to worry about and that "it just happens." |
Don't squeeze any gunk out. I'm sure it's similar to acne pimples and when you squeeze them you just force bacteria to spread, under the skin etc. Resist the urge and if you find one is "squeezable" try washing it etc, then if it grows let the vet drain it. Maybe he can tell you what it is if he gets some of the gunk. I know it might be hard to resist. I am a world-class picker and squeezer (of my owns bumps etc). I find it gross to squeeze anybody else's, even my pet's. My baby is bump-less, so I have no advice to the OP. |
