should I panic!!??? Help!! Hayley ate 1/2 of a sugar free oreo cookie!!!! She ran and ate before I could get it away fr her!!! Happened about 20 min ago she acts fine...Is this the same as a piece of chocolate? Help please!!!! She weighs 6 lbs in case that helps |
Gosh, I don't know! I hope that someone else might know... |
I think she will probably be fine. My friend's Pom recently ate an entire bag of chocolate, and started throwing up. She was okay, though. I think as long as your Yorkie doesn't start showing signs of sickness, she should be fine. |
I believe I read that it is the darker chocolates like baking chocolate/cocoa that is the most harmful...I think she will be fine :) |
I agree with everyone else and think she will be fine. Pay attention for any thing different going on with her but don't worry. |
Keep an eye on her, she should be fine. Thank goodness it wasn't a pill of some kind. They are awfully quick when it comes to something that drops on the floor ! They are like Hoover and Orecks ! :aimeeyork :aimeeyork |
I would watch her really carefully!! If she acts okay, eats drinks and plays, then I would say she is fine...otherwise I would have her checked out by a vet!!! |
he will be just fine! |
This thread tells you how much of what types of chocolate a dog has to eat to be of concern. It is not much for tiny yorkie. All but white chocolate is poisonous and even if the dog only ate a little it has a cumulative effect and stays in the system so each time a dog eats chocolate it continues to add up.http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...ison+chocolate See post #9 |
I should tell you some of the things that my pup has gobbled up before I even knew he had them!!!! But - he has survived and never had any problems. Seems like I am always taking something away from him. And, some of the things I find him chomping away on -- aren't even food. Since I live alone and have no children -- my house is probably safer than most homes as far as the puppy goes. But, he is on a mission 24 hours a day trying to find something he can chew on or eat. If I ever hear the slightiest unusual noise - I run wondering, "What does he have now!" It's a constant watch with these little guys. Right? I think he has had a bite or two of all the things dogs aren't supposed to eat. If I know he has done this, I watch him closely and luckily he has never gotten sick or had any problems at all. I know that some little Yorkies have much more sensitive stomachs than others. So, this should always be a special consideration. AND - fortunately since my puppy is finally passing through his teething stage, I am noticing a lot less chewing in general. His chewing is becoming more focused on the toys and things that he is supposed to be chewing on --not everything else in the house. Good luck! If your pup eats something he shouldn't - keep a close eye on him. He may just throw it up (and may not) and most of the time will survive anyway with no real problems. But be ready........just in case! Carol Jean |
my puppy recently got a hold of a packet of splenda! i chased her down, but she already tore it open, so i know she ate some splenda, and she was fine, i got her to drink water and just relaxed and watched her. |
She'll probably be fine. I know many dogs that have eaten cholate candy bars etc., with no ill effects - once. Some are going to have a reaction just like to cheese or fish etc. If she starts stumbling, or throwing up - to the vet's immediately. Or - just call the vet and see what he says - !! |

I remember one year on Valentine's Day, my mom got me a box of chocolates. After eating a couple, I left them out on my desk and left the house. When we came back, there were wrappers all over my room-my dog had eaten all the remaining chocolates. We were SOOO scared, but she never got sick or threw up or anything. More recently, the same dog ate a whole king size bag of M&M's (Not the candy bar sized packages, the big plastic ones.) and she still never got sick. Her belly was bloated, and she layed around for awhile (You could tell she had a stomach ache) but she still never threw up... |
My yorkie ate some chocolates a while back. I called the vet right after it happened she said he would be o.k. That he would have to had eaten alot of it to affect him. |
