I lost my Maya yesterday - 9 weeks old I am stunned. In one horrific day my little Maya got very ill and then we lost her. I woke up to find a very sick puppy. I rushed her to the vet and they immediately began treating her for hypoglycemia and attempted to find underlying cause. By 2:30 they asked me to transfer her to a ER animal hospital where they continued to treat her for a short time. Turns out she had a larger than normal opening in her skull (too stressed to remember what it's called, but I know it's somewhat common in small dogs) and a few other congenital deformities. When we got to ER her heart rate, glucose and breathing were OK (with oxygen) but within minutes her heart rate plummeted. I was sobbing the entire time at the ER. It's unbelievable how much I miss this little girl after only being with her for a week. I keep looking around for her! From day one I thought she was too small to be with me (not that it would have saved her). I can certainly see the wisdom in being with the Mom for 12 weeks! She was less than one pound. So I'm going to hang around a bit but probably not post much. There is a possibility of adopting a 6 month old but I'm not sure. Thank you for the help you have given this week. (Maya has been donated to a teaching hospital and then I'm getting her ashes - her little life had a purpose!) |

I'm so sorry for your loss! |
I am so sorry for your loss, and am sad that a breeder would have put a too small, too young, sick pup in anyone's hands. |

so very very sorry for your loss of maya may she RIP. |
Sorry for your loss. Was there a health guarantee? I would go after the breeder, they should have known about the skull issue and prewarned you of the risk! |

The breeder did warn me of the risk of hypoglycemia but we didn\'t know about the defects. In fact the vet originally gave her a clean bill of health except for the umbilical cord hernia. I am getting a full refund from the breeder. I agree that she was too young and way too small to be away from her mother! Poor thing. I keep looking for her - in one week I became accustomed to watching her constantly to keep her safe. Thanks so much for the kind words and support. :animal-pa:animal-pa |
