Help! Yorkie walking weird after walk :( Took my yorkie for a walk and he was fine but hours later he stared walking so strangely. It almost looks as if he's hobbling. Here we are the following day and he looks somewhat better but still walking fairly strangely, it varies from good to bad but mostly bad when he's been lying down for a while. When I took him out this afternoon, he hobbled again and looked like he was stretching his hind legs out backwards while he was walking as if they were almost going to collapse, like he couldn't help it. We tried to check him out but he isn't wimpering when we touch him and still tries to run when there are things outside he doesn't like. He is also eating fairly normally as well. Help, I feel so sad watching him like this but he isn't acting like he's in pain. |
Please take him to the vet as soon as possible. Just because they don't seem like they are in pain doesn't mean nothing's wrong. |
Sounds like a luxating patella. You need to have this evaluated and graded be your vet. |
Definitely need to get him to a vet asap! Could be many different things. |
With an odd gait like this that isn't going away fast - you truly do need to get to a vet. Please keep up posted on what they say. :) |
Our Maggie has grade 3 luxating patella in both back legs, and she is overweight. I started trying to walk her to try to help her lose some weight, but when I would take her for a walk she would act like that afterwards. I decided to stop walking her because I was afraid I was doing more harm than good. I would have the dog checked. It may be luxating patella, and it might be something else. It would be worth finding out what it is though. That way you can deal with it. |

Looking for an update on this pup........ |
Mine had contracted lyme disease and was asymptomatic (no symptoms). Her legs just collapsed under her and when they ran a blood panel on her it was confirmed she had lyme disease. It could be the patella but either one should be asap by a vet. Good luck- hope it's nothing serious. |
How is this kiddo doing now? |
