A 3 second dog fight Hi. My 7 lb 2 1/2 yr old yorkie got into a fight with a 50 lb. cattle dog that I have been watching. The cattle dog was standing over my yorkie Chloe and trying to bite her face and Chloe was trying to bite the cattle dog. I broke it up instantly by holding the cattle dogs collar till my husband came and got Chloe and picked her up. She is fine and seems alert but is favoring her left leg and wants to stay in a crate in my bedroom. It happened so quickly and I was in the room but my back was turned to them so I didn't see how is started. She lets me touch her leg and I fed her treats so she is eating. Do you think I should take her to emergency. I have tramadol I can give her. Or wait and get her in to my vet tomorrow who is an orthopedic specialist. I am so upset and not thinking clearly. Thanks so much for your help! |
She's been traumatized and maybe injured if she's isolating in her crate and is limping. Get her to the vet ASAP - she's likely in pain, she could have a CCL tear of the leg or other injuries and a professional needs to check her out before administering any medication. |
take to ER today, better to be safe then sorry, 7lbs. vs 50 lbs. If it was me I would be at my vet which is a 24/7. 365 days clinic, I wouldn't be here asking "should I" Go to ER NOW. |
Please Do not give your dog any human medications it could be poisonous. She may have been stepped on by the cattle dog. I am torn between advising you to take her to an emergency Vet now or your orthopedist tomorrow. But better safe than sorry. |
I would see a vet asap, just in case and you dont want her in pain which sounds like she is good luck |
Personally, unless she is bleeding or has an obvious injury I would not go to the emergency vet. If this is an orthopedic injury, nothing will be done anyway other than to medicate for pain. Now, IF she is in severe pain and you cannot make her comfortable, then yes, go to the EC. If the tramadol is hers and you know the dosage, I would think it would be ok to give. If it is your medicine and you don't know the right dosage for her, do not give it! |
Please let us know what the vet says |
Please update us with what your vet said. I hope she is okay! |
