Injured at the groomers today For the last several days my yorkie has been very itchy. She gets that way in the summer due to allergies. Her stomach is one of the main places that really itch. I took her to be groomed today. She came home with what looks to be burns on her stomach. It looked speckled with blood but flat to her skin. She did NOT have any of this or any redness (despite her constant itching) on her stomach. From what Ive read online, it could be hotspots or clipper burn. Or possibly a hotspot caused by the clippers..being that area has been bothering her. I couldnt call him or go back...when I brought her home, I had to go to the hospital to be with my dad, he had a stroke. Im home now and looking ..I cant figure out what it is. I bought an aloe vera plant and used on her which seems to have helped. Any idea what this could be??? |
Welcome to Yorkie Talk. Sounds like it could be razor burn, but difficult to say without seeing it in person. Be careful that she doesn't lick the aloe off of her belly. Instead of aloe, which can cause diarrhea and vomiting if ingested, I would use organic coconut oil. I buy Nutiva brand from the Vitamin Shoppe. I accidentally gave Teddy a little razor burn on his underside once. It cleared up in a few days. Very sorry to hear about your dad. Best wishes to him and your family. |
Thank you. Well its good to know it may not be hotspots. Could you give me some examples of how youd describe clipper burn? Ill try the coconut oil. I have some. |
I'd use Google image and type in canine or dog clipper burn and see what the images look like. I'd take a picture of it, be sure to keep her wound treated and don't let her lick it, ask the groomer for an explanation and take her to the vet if it get inflamed or swollen. I'm sure sorry to hear about your dad and hope he's better soon. I've seen wonders worked in stroke rehab. |
Thanks for the well wishes for my dad. Funny you mention not letting her lick it..I put coconut oil on it and shes licked it all off lol. |
I hope your little baby is better today. I don't think the coconut oil will hurt her if she licks it off. Although, she might irritate the rash/clipper burns on her tummy if she licks it a lot. I used to give mine coconut oil but like most things that are good for them, they soon turned their nose up at it...ah well. |
Hopefully it's just a mild razor burn. Like Kristin said, I'd put some coconut oil on it. |
