Pregnant yorkie not eating Hi, I'm new to this forum and not very good with computers. My yorkie, Baby, is 6.5 weeks pregnant and not showing much. She has had a poor appetite for most of the pregnancy and now she hasn't eaten for over a full day. At week 4, she started spotting and the vet tested her for brucellosis and did an ultrasound to see if she had pyometra. She was neg. for brucellosis and did not have pyometra. She was placed on antibiotics and the spotting stopped. The vet could not tell if she was pregnant from the ultrasound, but said the uterus appeared enlarged. My question is, should I take her back to the vet since she's not eating. She also seems very tired, but being pregnant, wouldn't she be tired? I was planning on taking her back at around 8 weeks for a final check before whelping. Any thoughts? Thanks. |

I am not an expert but I would surely take her back to the vet. Usually they are really hungry when pregnant and the puppies as well as the mom need the calories. |

Well, she didn't eat the liver and I called my vet. They said to try bland foods, which I already have. Then they said to give her one more day and if she's not eating, bring her in. So, I guess that's my plan. Unless anyone else has a suggestion. |

Hope she likes maybe plain chicken and some rice. Good luck!! I know it is worrisome. |

A little loss of apetite is normal but for as long as its been going on is not normal. |

Yes it is normal for them to not want to eat but not this early in her pregnancy. Typically once the pups get larger and she becomes more uncomfortable. Try feeding her smaller portions throughout the day. Also at this stage in her pregnancy its time to get her started on a good puppy food in order to add a good sores of calcium to her diet. Try and get the same brand as you are feeding her now in both a dry and can form. Than mix some of each with a bit of water to create a broth and she should gobble it right up. Give her three meals a day and than afterwards up it to at least four per day for as long as she is nursing. You will need to increase her intake to substance the demand as the pups get older. |

Thanks for the info.. She did start eating a little yesterday, and she ate more today. I'll try the puppy food. |
