Yoda has Diabetes and is Blind Now :( 1 Attachment(s) Yoda got diagnosed with diabetes a few months ago and has now lost his sight recently as a result of the cataracts and diabetes. He is 11 years old now, almost twelve... He had been managing well, he gets his blood tested twice a day and we use AlphaTrak 2 monitoring strips. We prick his tail for the blood and he doesn't seem to mind too much. Sometimes the monitoring strips are faulty though and don't register a number (about 10% of the time), which is a bit annoying because the test strips are over $1/each.... He seems to need insulin at least once a day. We have changed his diet as now we cook all his foods for him. Yoda also developed an eye infection the past few days. He's been very weak the past few days and he seems tired as his little body has gone through so much. It's been hard for Yoda after he lost his sight, as he's scared of a lot of things and just wants to be held most of the time, which we usually do accommodate. We're not sure if he's in constant pain, but we do sense he is very tired and uncomfortable... We wish there was more we can do for him. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers. Here's a recent pic of Yoda in his faux fur jacket (after a visit to the vet). |

Oh, I am so sorry to hear that Yoda is not feeling well. I will keep him in my prayers...and you as well. I know how difficult it is to have a sick pup. |

I know you love him dearly just like the entire YT community. It's so hard when they get older and they begin to have health concerns. :( |

Oh no - I just logged in after setting up a new computer ..... I am so very sorry to hear this news ! Bless his heart and yours for taking such good care of him. My Chanel is the same age and just recently I found out some terrible news about her health and can totally understand how helpless you feel. My God Be With You and you have my prayers. |

Oh no! How sad for Yoda! When my Peek had trouble seeing, I added coconut oil to his food and I swear it helped to delay the progression of his cataracts. I believe one benefit is in helping to stabilize glucose in the body too. They also make a vitamin type eye drop that may help... worth a try. I\'ll post the name when I find it. Praying for you both... |

I am sorry to hear Yoda isn\'t doing well. I will keep him in my prayers. |

Im praying for Yoda and you and your family as well. We believe my Chachi has some sight problems result of a cornea injury and he has slowed down alot as well and i know it is sad. |

I can only imagine how hard this is for Yoda to be going through and all I can do is offer prayers for him. I hate to see any dog get old and infirm and lose the fun of life they used to enjoy so much. Your job now gets harder and more painful also so I will keep you in my prayers as well. I know this is the worst time in a dog\'s life and for the person who loves them so. I know you two are a team and will hope and pray that this time together is all the more sweet because you are together. |

I am so sorry to hear that Yoda isn\'t feeling well. Your family will definitely be in my thoughts and prayers. You and Ms. Fasteddie have always been such good parents - I know that little Yoda will always get the very best of care. |

Oh no! I\'m going to keep Yoda in our prayers. |

Aww, poor little guy! Sorry to hear this :( |

soooo sorry for your lil Yoda, we have all been there, it\'s so sad when they get older, give him all the love & comforting he wants. These are very special times for you both. I will keep both Yoda & you in my prayers. |

Thank you---You are doing a wonderful job taking care of Yoda & his illnesses. Please give Yoda a few extra kisses & hugs from my gang here in Las Vegas. Take care. |

I am praying for Yoda and you, Fast Eddie. Very sorry to hear your little boy is not feeling well. |

I\'m sorry little Yoda is going through this , it\'s heartbreaking when they can\'t see anymore, this happened to my first Yorkie Max, when he was 13 he did manage to work out where things were in the house but you had to make sure you did not move the furniture around. I know you will give him the best of care. Julie |
