24 hours since spay My baby Bella was spayed yesterday. She is not eating and drinking water on her own:( should I be worried? |
Lilah wasn't interested in eating/drinking for the first 24 hours.....then she came around. Is she peeing still? Drinking a little bit at least? |
Give her some Nutrical or pancake syrup, and try to hand feed her to get something in her. Is she up and about at all? |
Thanks for the advice...she is in and out of it. She was up for a bit exploring but went straight back to her play pent...she also not going to the loo... |
I would try and entice her to eat and drink if you cannot I may contact the vet just to be sure there is nothing more they suggest. and I agree with kat. maybe try a lil plain cooked chicken pulled finely apart mixed in with some kibble and warm water. hope she gets better real soon. |

I've made her some soft chicken and rice soup, which she refuses to eat. She's taken a few bites and that was it. I've also been feeding her by syringe water. She has been tucked in and warm for the most of the day...and she has just only peed for the second time today. |

I had to take Ziva off the pain pills to get her appetite back, I think they made her nauseous... |

Did she have her spay and sent home in the same day or was she kept overnight? It sounds to me like she is still in the recovery process from the anesthesia from the surgery. If she seems comfortable and is resting offer her food and water but if she refuses she just seems a little more time for recovery. As for discontinuing pain meds, that is really not a good idea. It's proven that relief of pain promoted quicker healing. She just needs a little more time to metabolize the anesthesia from her spay. |
How is your puppy doing now? |
It was normal for Jewels and also my cats to not eat for a day or so after a spay the important thing is for them to go to the bathroom |
