Older female with head twitches HI Everyone, Have a 13 year old female, she is blind, and walks like a dog 500 years old, (except at time she runs like at young pup.) Tonight for the first time she had head twitches each lasting about 5 to 20 seconds with about the same time without the twitching. The whole period lasted 10 minutes. THIS ONE IS THE MOST IMPORTANT. She also at night will get down off the bed and after going outside she will sometimes wander the house. (this is killing her parents being up most nights sometimes as much as 4 or 5 times). She was extremely abused as a puppy but has had a good live ever since. She was taken well care and been loved (spending most nights right next to my wife who said if you live I will call you Angel. Don't know if the twitching is age related of from being abused as a puppy about 13 years ago. Thanks for any help. |
13 y/o, blind, head twitching, I would take her to the vet for the head twitching. My last baby that had to be put down this past oct. at age 16 y/o was 90% blind and deaf,her head never twitched. I would deferentially get her to the vet. |

Please do...head twitching not a good sign, she could have an ear infection. you will get more advise from other members as the evening goes on. Good luck, I will keep your pup in my prayers. |

Poor old girl! Even if the head twitching gets better, she needs to see the vet just because she had that episode as she's pretty old and who knows what old injuries or problems she might have that are acting up - or something new starting up. Also, maybe she could be tried on some medication that would help her ambulate if she's not already on something for it. Your description of how she moves sounds painful! It also sounds like she can't hold her urine or bowels or, she's just aching and hurting from lying down for prolonged periods during the night time and needs to stretch her joints and muscles out a bit - which goes with getting older and having joints that swell and get stiff when unmoved and muscles that spasm if left in one position too long. Maybe the vet has something to help with that aspect of her life, also. I sure hope you find some help for this girl. |
