Teddy update Teddy's stones are not gone. He is having a procedure next week to squeeze them out of his bladder. They are going to send the stones to the Univ of Minnesota stone center. This just stinks, we've tried two diets to dissolve them and they failed. He's not a typical case so this does seem like the best option. The biggest risk to this is that his bladder could rupture but it is unlikely and even if it does they would just take him to surgery and fix it. She does this all the time and is very hopeful she can get these three stones out. I wish he had better news :( |
Very sorry to hear diet did not take care of the stones. Praying for sweet Teddy for the procedure to go well and for a speedy recovery. |
Poor Teddy......he just never seems to catch a break :( |
Poor little guy. I'm sorry and will pray that it goes well that day. |
Poor Teddy, well it sounds like he is in the BEST hands possible, hopefully this will take care of it once and for all, he needs a break...for sure. Will he have to go on another special diet or is the diet he is on now going to be best? |

Poor Teddy. I'll be crossing my fingers! |
I am so sorry. Poor Teddy really gets slammed a lot. :( Praying that this gets resolved quickly. |
Poor Teddy, hope the stone center will have some answers...Teddy is very special. Hope he's not in too much pain & will get better real soon! |
Thank you everyone. Teddy should do fine. I'm am praying they can get all three of these stones out. I feel he is in good hands and the vet is at least grabbing the bull by the horns here and trying to offer something different to try to solve this. The good thing is that Teddy has no idea. This has been a very frustrating problem but it's not the worst thing to happen to a dog. |

Cathy, good luck with Teddy's treatment. Gosh, between you and Linda I can't even keep track of who's pup is being treated for what..... bless you both for looking after your precious fur kids so well. |

For anyone who likes to watch gross medical stuff, this is the procedure teddy is having. It doesn't seem bad. It looks like a Yorkie in the video. I couldn't see this from my iphone. http://mediamill.cla.umn.edu/mediamill/embed/190062 |
Teddy Poor baby. Did not look that gross though as the dog was asleep. Could not see any solids, are the stones broken up that small? I was expecting lumps of stuff coming out with the water. Perhaps I just did not look hard enough? Interesting that just pressure on the lower abdomen could do the job. Good luck when Teddy has this done, hope it makes him better. |

The way they do it is that they put him to sleep and give him medications to relax the bladder walls so it does not contract. Then they pass a catheter into the bladder and fill the bladder with saline solution. Then they stand him up like in the video and they squeeze. Hopefully the pressure of the squeeze will get the sand and gravel out. It takes like a month to get the results which is very aggravating. But, if I don't do it now, and the gravel gets bigger, he won't be able to have this procedure and will have to be cut for surgery. |
Stones Thank you for the run down of the complete process. So this squeezing is the last procedure. I see now why the opening looked so red and relatively large if it had been catheterized to inject the saline earlier. (I still would have liked to have seen the small stones at the bottom of the container. Enquiring minds need to know! LOL!) Lets hope Teddy's are the smallest so they will pass easily and will not need surgery. I agree having to wait a month for results is very annoying. I wonder in this tech age why the analysis takes so long? Praying all goes well for him, not long to wait now. I bet you will feel a little sore down there for a day or two. Ouch! Get well soon Teddy. :-) I just saw the video again and think I did detect some stones on the right of the container base! If I did, some look rather large! |
Bless his heart...it's not fair! One good thing, Teddy has a very knowledgeable mom who will make sure that he gets the best care and nutrition. He will be in our prayers... |
My yorkie is 2 years old has the same thing . He had surgery last month. It's not easy to care for them after the surgery. Best of luck. If you have any question feel free to reach out. |
Teddy update I just heard that they were finishing up w/ Teddy's procedure. They got the three stones out of his bladder! I am just waiting to hear that he is awake. |
Good to know! There's a collective sigh of relief from YT, I'm sure. Let us know when he's awake and back to being himself!:) |

He's awake! All went well and he is coming home this afternoon. He won't need any pain meds since all went nice and easy. I'm very relieved all went well for Teddy, and now I anxiously await the results of the stone analysis. |
Cathy just seeing this now, congrats on the successful procedure. Vlad and Teddy should be arriving home after their respective surgeries soon :) |
Teddy WTG Teddy. So happy that all went well and that you are awake now and the pain is gone. Yeh! Hope you are feeling really well soon. Thanks for the update. |
Cathy, I am very happy for Teddy and you that everything went perfectly!! Glad your little guy can come home tonight. Sending gentle hugs to sweet Teddy. |
