Dont mean to scare you but they can have an odor if they are in kidney failure I would let the vet know about the odor |
my dog smells bad lost his hair under his belly and legs, itches all the time, not eating,is he during?he's 14,Help! |
I'd get him to a vet dermatologist asap. |
I had a dog with similar problems. The vet put her on some kind of steroids which helped clear up her skin. Her skin was very dark looking and smelly before the meds. Maybe your baby is just worn out by all the scratching. Please keep us posted. |
I don't know how long ago he was at the vet but it sounds like it's time to go back. Assuming the bad odor you mentioned is coming from the skin, it sounds like he may have a skin infection in which case he will need some antibiotics. They can have allergies to any number of things but one thing I would try first if you're not already doing so is make sure you're using a good flea prevention on him monthly. Some of these guys can get severe skin infections from flea bites even if you aren't seeing a ton of fleas on him. If they haven't done so already, bloodwork may not be a bad idea too since he is 14 years old. There are some medical conditions such as low thyroid levels that can cause skin issues. Good luck.:) |
If he is refusing to eat, and is just laying around - you need to get to the vet ASAP! Inappetance is not a good sign in a dog - they only don't eat if/when they're feeling pretty awful. If this has gone on for more than a day, you truly need to go in. Also, that strong of an odor means something is going on w/ either his skin or his organs. For allergies, read this: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/die...tart-here.html |
dog We need to be careful with the food we feed our dogs. A lot of the foods have stuff in them I do not think is good. My friend has a malti-poo Max and when he eats chicken he scratches. So allergies are prevalent. I believe that the venison diet is great for the itchies. If you haven't tried this, please do. Get a dog food with a venison base. I used Natures Recipe Venison but there may be a better venison out there. It really helped my dog. |
