Siezures My Fergie is 7 years old we noticed she started dragging her back left leg a little in December and she has started having siezures. Took her to the TAMU vet school and they put her on Zonisamide and had to take her back because she had 2 in one night...then they said it may be neck pain they and put her on pregabalin and all of blood work was good. She seems to do good for a week and then every friday morning she has 1 or 2 siezures and they seem to be geeting worse each time...She is back at the vet school now....Anyone ever have this problem? |
I haven't but I'll be praying for your little one. |
Just got a call from the vet and they are thinking now that fergie has idiopathic meningitis.... |
I hope it is treatable. Sounds very scary. |
I hope they have found the cause now and can treat it. |
I am so sorry. I will keep Fergie in my thoughts and prayers. |
What happens on Fridays or Thursday nights? Does she scratch her neck behind one ear a lot? Has she been vaccinated for anything in the past 2-3 months? |
Idiopathic means there is no known cause. So, even if she had vaccines, there is no research that says they would cause it. I realize some people believe they set off that auto immune response that leads to these conditions; but the neurologist I spoke with told me there is no research to back that. Hope that Fergie is doing well this evening. |
I hope your baby will be better soon. Sending prayers. |
Wondering how Fergie is doing? Any news...sending prayers. |
Prayers for your little Fergie ; I hope she is on the road to recovery. Susan |
Yes she does scratch behind one ear a lot...and no she hasn't had shots since like sept. She has been getting better and better with her balance and she has been taking all 7 of her medications great and then yesterday evening she started shaking and her balance was off and she wouldn't eat and just not feeling good and this morning she had a small siezure... |
Prayers! |

Just putting it out there... scratching behind the ear may not have been mentioned to the vet, but that, when combined with neuro issues, becomes a 'symptom' or a part of the picture at least. If the vet didn't look for Chiari, it could very easily been missed on any scans/tests. Vets don't normally look for Chiari in Yorkies, as it is more common in other breeds like Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. All the OP needs to do is ask if the vet specifically checked for Chiari. If yes, fine. If no, then they need to is all I'm saying, IMHO. |
My guess is that MRI and spinal were done to come up with the diagnosis they did come up with. But, who knows. |

No, we have not been able to do the MRI... |
So, you opted not to do testing and just treat the symptoms? I am sure that was not the choice of A&M...just want people here to be clear so they don't start bashing the vets which happens a lot. MRIs are very expensive and sometimes people will opt to treat as if. |
I'm very sad to hear this news as this pup needs to have the MRI. |
