10 wk old whining and biting at rear end!!!! Help!!! My 10 wk old is whining and biting is butt. He is eating and drinking Normally no food changes. But I did give him a few new treats. Any ideas!? |
Try wiping his butt with a wet, warm cotton ball. |
I agree & check to be sure there is not a bit of poo stuck on his bum. |
Thx I did do that. Nothing there. He seems to have stopped. Energy level is good. But has not pooped since he started. Looks like it's gonna be a long night. |
could be his anal glands need to be expressed. Elliott usually walks around and keeps turning to look at his bum and then just sits when his need to be done. You can do it if you know how otherwise quick trip to vet and they can take care of it. Hope your little one is feeling better soon. |
Could be worms, too. |
Thx! The glands look fine. My cocker used to have issues with hers so I am familiar. I didn't think about worms so will get meds today for that. What kind is the best for them? He weighs about 4lbs and is 11 wks tomorrow. Thank you all for the help. I'm learning so much from this group. :) soo glad I found you all!!! |
What you treat with depends on the kind of worms. Some can be treated with over-the-counter meds, but tapeworm cannot. Take a stool sample to the vet and they can look at it under the microscope and tell you right away if there are worms and what is needed. All are easily cured with the right meds. |
He may just be a bit constipated. You can give him a little bit of apple, green beans or pure canned pumpkin to help out with that. |
Thx! He did it while I wasn't home. My 13 yr old daughter was watching him and described what he was doing. He hasn't done it at all today. Peeing and pooping is normal. He hasn't eaten as Much as normal today though. Keeping a close eye on him. |
He could be teething right now, and that can irritate the entire GI tract (just like in human babies, how they get diaper rash when teething). You could put some diaper cream or hydrocortisone cream on his bum to help w/ any invisible irritation that's occurring...as long as he can't reach his bum to lick it all off (if he can reach it, just make sure you rub it ALL in very good so that the substance isn't lickable in any real volume). Like others have mentioned, it could also be worms. Your vet would be able to give you the deworming stuff. Does his poo look okay? |
