Post Operative Liver shunt tips Hi! I'm picking up Tank this afternoon from UT after having liver shunt surgery. Any advice on how to keep him calm and resting. I have another yorkie who's older and a shihtzu-chi mix that we rescued who is a year old. Close to tanks age, Bella and Tank play and tumble like puppies all the time. Any tips? |
When my Teddy Bear had liver shunt surgery last year, he did fantastic. He pretty much set his own limits. I think it varies from dog to dog. If Tank does not like being crated, you might want to put him in a pet stroller if you have one so he can move from room to room with you. He was on lactulose after surgery, but for only a brief time. I am sure you will get detailed instructions about that and diet. Please keep us posted! |
Happy camper Thank you! After picking him up Friday, he slept most of the night and we slept in the spare bedroom so his fur sisters didn't try to "help" lick his stitches. Saturday morning he was playing with the others, eating, back to life as normal. He is earing and drinking regularly and I only put him in the cone when we sleep. I took the week as vacation to stay home with him. He's doing fantastic! |
That's terrific! So happy to hear that all is going well. :) |
