Trying to tell the difference btwn collapsing trachea and reverse sneeze Lilah is 5 months old and recently started doing this honking noise, not too often so I haven't been able to catch on video yet. It seems to happen when she eats/drinks and when she runs around. It's like a couple of honking sounding coughs and then is sometimes followed by a gag sound (like she is gonna vomit, but doesn't). I'm going to take her to the vet this week but if she doesn't make the sound there can they tell what it is? Or would they need to do an X-ray? Wondering if I should get pet insurance now (since I was considering it anyway) |
Here are videos that demonstrate the difference: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/die...d-trachea.html |
Thanks Kristin I looked at all of those and it doesn't quite sound like any of them. Sounds least like kennel cough, reverse sneeze sounds like the wrong sound, and the CT one sounds worse than her (maybe hers just isn't as bad?) I'm hoping to catch it on video this weekend |
Have you checked around her mouth and on the inside? I have found hair, and a hairball stuck on the teeth that goes halfway down the throat, causing a gagging like you describe, especially after drinking and exercise. |
no, but I will check....thanks! |
One way to tell the difference is that with a reverse sneeze you can see the chest inflating on inspiration. They are breathing in and out rapidly. With CT, they usually have trouble getting air in and are coughing. As for xrays, they can show CT, but not always. The only definite way to diagnose is with a flouroscopy that shows inspiration and expiration. |
These videos were soooooo helpful. This has totally alleviated my anxiety! THANK YOU!!!! |
Sukey, I have sent you a private message |
