question on meds
 
Bentley has been "off" for over a week now....had him at my vet jan 22, the ER that same weekend (which they THOUGHT he may have had lyme but, tested neg but, still put him on doxycycline) then back to his vet on Monday....blood work was done at ER and at my vet..he had a fever at the ER (which fever is gone now and temp is normal! ) He also has a mild ear infection which is also being treated..He has dental disease which is being taken care of on the 11th of Feb...which he is on metacam as well....he was very lethargic and couldn't walk but would still eat. Now he is up and walking...tail up and wagging and fighting me to give him his meds...which is a good sign...However...he is sleeping alot...he is peeing and pooping so that's all good...Maybe the meds are doing this to him? I just need someone to tell me that's what's causing this...I am praying once his dental is done he is back to his bouncy self...I have been heart sick over this...He is normally a healthy little guy...all of a sudden BAM! this all happens....all at the same time!... :(

Antibiotics slow my guys down, but not to the point of lethargy. I don't have experience with Metacam.

Glad to hear Bentley is up and walking around. If he appears to have problems walking again or is lethargic, I would check in with the vet again before his dental cleaning.

Thank you Kristin for responding! :) He isn't having problems walking anymore...matter of fact when he would shake (not pain shake like shake after getting up, we shake LOL ) his back legs would give out and he'd fall on the floor...well...he can "shake" now and not even teeter...so he is DEFINITELY improving...I am also giving him 1/4 tab of pepcid so he belly doesn't get upset from all the meds...but, I wonder if his belly is still not right because of the meds...OY!

Pain meds can mess with their appetites. So glad he's improving. I would still check in with your vet about his behavior though.

Very happy to hear he is doing better. Praying for his dental to go well and for him to be back to himself 100%.

His appetite hasn't been affected at all! he is my smallest and best eater! LOL...He will NOT eat his kibbles though...he is eating soft food....I think it's because of his teeth...and don't worry! I have been in contact with my vet almost every other day! I'm a FREAK when it comes to my furbabies! my kids call me the crazy dog lady! LOL He really has improved greatly since last week...he just won't play...he does have some pep to his step and holds his tail up...I tend to think it's the meds and being in the x pen that is a lot of the problem...he isn't used to being penned up...although I am leaving an opening for him to come out when he needs too...And when I get food ready to feed the girls he comes out and eats with them...when he's done he goes back to his bed....or on my lap I just want "him" back :(

I, too, hope the dental will help him. I'm so glad that he's doing better with regard to not falling over. I gave Pepcid twice daily to my sixteen year old Yorkie, and my vet said it wouldn't harm her. When YorkieTalkjille's Tibbe was on it, it made him tired, and it is a rare side effect.

"For dogs and cats, if any of the following serious side effects occur, stop giving famotidine and seek emergency veterinary medical attention; an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; swelling of the lips; tongue or face; hives). Side effects are rare but may include loss of appetite and tiredness. Other side effects may also occur. Talk to your veterinarian about any side effect that seems unusual or bothersome to the animal."

Thank you but none of that has happened.I have been in contact with one of the vet techs since all this has happened. Just spoke with her and she said the needs could make him blah.other than that I have noticed a great improvement..:)
