Uti ? Just returned home from ER vet with my girl. She was acting uncomfortable and restless today so I was keeping a close eye on her. She vomited once earlier in the day and she has been drinking more water than normal for the past two days. Tonight she used her potty pad and I noticed pink/bloody urine. She then began acting like she was straining to pee. Took her in to vet right away where they did urinalysis and X-ray. Stones have been ruled out to the best of their ability, but her bladder was empty so they recommend a follow-up X-ray when she is feeling a little better. They can get a clearer picture when the bladder is full. Urinalysis showed blood and elevated WBC but nothing to indicate stones. She was given pain med, meds for bladder spasms, and antibiotic. My question is how long before she should stop straining and how long before urine is a normal color? She seems restless and wants to sleep but I guess the pain/spams are keeping her awake. I hate to see her so uncomfortable and I'm hoping that relief will come soon. Anyone have any experience with UTI? Thanks! |
You should notice a diff by morning in the straining. Meds usually start to make a big diff in a few hrs after the 1st dose. Depending on how long she's had this UTI, it may take a couple of days before the blood clears up. Poor baby, UTI's are miserable. FYI, straining is not uncommon with a UTI & doesn't always mean stones are present. |
Thanks for the quick reply. She seems to be resting a little better now. I'm going to try to do the same. I'm praying for quick relief and that we have the right med for the infection. I know these UTIs can be stubborn sometimes. I'll be counting down days until clear urine. |
Am I worrying for no reason? My baby seems to have peed a lot today. But she isn't straining & her pee seems to be more clear defiantly not pink/bloody. |
Kiki Mama, there could be many reasons why she is urniating more than normal. As long as she is eating, playing, and acting normally I would just keep a close eye on her and use your gut instinct. If you notice any strange or abnormal symptoms I wouldn't hesitate to call my vet. Good luck. |
Thank you my gut says shen was working for treats I was making her treats yesterday but she has never done that before. But she is getting off a bland diet & wanting anything different. |
