Help...Our Pippy isn't feeling well! Our Pippy is a year and 5 months old and weighs 4.5 lbs. She started acting funny this morning by setting down oddly...then her tummy started growling and gurgling and she has refused food. She is just wanting to sleep. Our vet is MILESTONE away and we are in the middle of a snowstorm and no way can we get there. What can I do? I am stressed beyond stressed right now! Does anyone have any ideas? No vomiting or loose stools. Had all shots and has always checked out fine at vet appts. |
I am sorry Pippi is not feeling well. I know sometimes Buster refuses food and it freaks me out because he always eats. She may just be feeling a little out of sorts. Check her gums and see what color they are as you want to make sure she does not have hypoglycemia. Here are some threads discussing hypoglycemia. Do you have Nutrical on hand or perhaps Kayro syrup? Give a little followed by some protein. I do know people warn against giving them honey. Sending prayers and best wishes that Pippi is just feeling off and there is nothing wrong. hypoglycemia - Google Search |
Thank you! I will certainly try this as when she doesn't eat she does get lethargic. I will keep watching my thread |
IMHO, I would fix her up some bland chicken and rice for 2-3 days, feed small meals and make sure she's drinking water (you can add a bit of chicken broth to the food and water to entice her to eat/drink). ( I'd also be thinking of an emergency plan to get to a vet if the need arises) |
I agree with the bland chicken idea. |
Thank you all so much! Things progressed pretty quickly at about 6:00 when Pippy started to go in circles as I was looking at her gums. So we quickly gave her some karo and within 3-4 minutes she started to act much better. I had chicken boiled (which she was refusing to eat), and she dug right in after the karo and ate very well. Goodness I learn something new every single day. I really thought that she was done with the low blood sugar problems. She had problems with that when she was tiny...she weighed in at 12 oz at 12 weeks. But she has grown nicely to 4.5 lbs and thinks she's a pit bull. We love this little cutie! Thanks again to ALL of you! |
Wow how scary for u and ur baby,, so glad to read that ur little girl is doin much better :) |
So glad she's eating and feeling better! |

Good advice But still keep a vigil eye out.....my Zoey is having appetite problems too and only eats like at 2 or 3:00 then at bedtime but have to coax. She is playful and doesn't act abnormal then she upchucked a 5 inch string she got loose from doggy chew toy made by pet stages it's a flat blue rubbery bone with thick chew strings on one end. Also came up looked like 2 pcs of wicker basket , which really puzzles me. She is hardly ever out of my sight. I was shocked! Could there be anything else in her stomach? Waaaaaa |
