lyme disease we just got back from the ER with our little Bentley. My vet thought he may have had a slipped knee...as I did myself...they gave him metacam for the pain but, he only got worse. He is very lethargic, and now can not walk properly. The ER vet took his temp...103.1...all vitals are perfect...however he keeps holding up his front leg now. She did blood work and tested him for lyme as he has all the characteristics of it. The test was negative....my question to all is....have any of you ever have this happen? I am very concerned about my little man...On a good note...he is still eating...he will not stand to eat. He is laying in his little bed and I brought his food to him. I did just give him his first dose of antibiotic...Please pray for my little man...My heart is breaking for him right now. Thank you |
Just bumping |
Pixie has bursitis in her front upper leg area. They put her on medcam and she had some laser treatments. I hope Bentley feels better. |
What a scary thing to go through :( I'm sorry. I hope your little babe gets back to normal quickly- it sounds like you are really on top of things. Best wishes *** |
Poor little guy... I hope you figure out what is wrong soon. Hopefully the antibiotics help. Keep us updated. |
I'm so sorry Bentley is having medical issues. I feel so bad for him and you and will sure say a prayer that he recover fully! |
Thank you. although he only has one dose of meds in him. He isn't any better this morning. I was HOPING to see a little improvement this morning. Maybe after a couple more doses...I will be calling my vet tomorrow. Have ANY of you ever heard of a dog testing negative for lyme but still have it? |
Praying for your little one. I have heard that Lymes vaccs and tests are a bit sketchy at best, in humans too. Maybe have hime retested, or just finish the antibiotics to be on the safe side. |
I wonder if it could be a pinched nerve that could be causing this. Just a guess since nothing else seems to be showing up. Hope he gets better very soon |
I don't have experience with Lyme, but I thought I read something about false negatives. If Bentley is on doxycycline, he should respond fairly quickly if it is Lyme. Here is a link explaining about false positives. Lyme Disease in Dogs | Lyme Disease Signs & Symptoms | VCA Animal Hospitals I hope Bentley gets better very soon. |

Thank you to those who have responded. I am absolutely sick to my stomach right now. He will not even try to stand...he did pee but, laying in his bed.He has not pooped since friday. this is concerning me. I gave him his first dose of med last night around 11 and another one this morning, along with metacam. although he isn't any worse...he isn't any better either. I Just want to see some kind of improvement. He will stand if I put him on the floor but, he won't walk. He does have a slight arch in his back and seems to be on tippy toes. I am so heart broken right now...I just don't know what more I can do for him. |
Pray he gets better |
Praying for Bentley that he shows improvement soon and recovers fully. I have heard of false negatives for humans and that it can take awhile for them to respond to medications. Brittany's Jackson had Lyme and was limping, although he did not have severe symptoms like Bentley. I will message her to comment on how long it took Jackson to improve with his medications. |
