Help Please - Lethargic Older Male Hi all, I have 3 dogs; 2 Yorkies- 1 female 3 years -Bella, 1 male unknown (adopted) -Jasper and 1 bulldog 1 year old -Taya They all get along famously! Our female yorkie, Bella is the leader as she has the most attitude and was here first :) Jasper and the bulldog Taya are Bff's, they cuddle all the time while Bella prefers to hang out with me and my fiancé. We adopted Jasper two years ago when his elderly owner passed away and we were given the opportunity. We jumped on it as we loved him and wanted a pal for Bella. We are unsure exactly of his age but we would guess about 8 years old. He is generally very spry and can hold his own while playing tug or running around in the house or yard with the other two. He is the best jumper of all three and the quietest and the calmest overall. This evening I came home after a work shift and he was very lethargic, back slightly hunched and is not willing to jump onto the bed or move much without persuasion. I love this lil guy very very much and he is my 12 year old sons best buddy!! I am not sure what's going on with him or what to do. It's after midnight where I am so would like to avoid the after hours vet call, if at all possible. I am hoping for any advice at all!! Thank you in advance :) |
Hi & Welcome to YT! it sounds like he may have an injury to his back. It would be best to take him to the vet, keep him confined till you can get him to the vet. |
Oh no...I'll offer a prayer that's it's nothing serious. I believe the hunched back can be a sign of pain. I know you don't want to hear it but I'd take him to an ER vet to get checked out. Is he eating, drinking, pooping and peeing? Are his gums pink and moist? Can you take his temp? Palpate for any soreness, to see if anything obvious hurts him? Keep us updated please... |
I am happy to say he has livened up more and more over the last hour!! Jasper is not a fan of the cold on a regular day but a day that's -28 with a -38 windchill is beyond cold for him!! The fact that when I announced it was bed time he sprung up and ran for the patio door gave me hope. They all love bedtime so much that they will begin to get antsy later in the evenings when they know its bedtime, they go into their crates and get treats after their nightly business trip I knew that would be a test because if he didn't get up and run for the door something was seriously wrong. My fingers are crossed that he wakes up with the same go get 'em attitude!! :animal37 Thank you both very much for your concern and advice! |
Good to hear he perked up some for you, how is he today? Hopefully it was nothing, maybe he had gas??? |
