Noah is coughing!! Hi all, My son just woke me up saying our puppy is coughing and sneezing. It's 6:30 a.m. here and our vet opens in 2 hours. Noah is laying next to me now sleepy soundly, but then he'll start coughing/weezing. he even brought up a little bit of fluid. It sounds as if he's gasping for air when he does it. I'm so scared and hope it isn't anything serious. Please advise, like I said I will also be calling the vet in a couple of hours. Thanks in advance. |
definitely deserves a trip to the vet.... hope he is ok... please keep us posted! |

Aww, do keep us posted and hope things are okay with your little guy. We had kennel cough around here a few years ago after I brought a foster home from the animal shelter. It sounds terrible. Not sure if that is what your Noah has but can relate to the panicky feeling when a pup starts coughing. |
does your vet have an emergency number that you could maybe get them to meet you a little earlier than the normal hours? |

since I'm a new owner, this is a question.... What are your thoughts on Mentholatum? Our old guy gets a little on his nose when he seems to have nasal issues.... it seems to help... it certainly helped bigger dogs in the past. We also have an inhaler for him, vet recommended. |

" Camphor and eucalyptus in Vapor Rub can be toxic to dogs and when inhaled can cause respiratory issues, so it can make your dog's condition worse. |

When we first got our little guy, he needed antibiotics for about a month for his nasal and lung condition. He was pretty sick. He's doing pretty well now, 5 months later. Thanks for the reply!:) |

Topical Vapor Products My Rottweiler had a wound on the side of her torso that has now healed. I was told to put Vicks Vapo Rub around the area to divert her from licking the wound. Could this be a problem if my dog were to ingest it? - Debi C. It could be a problem, Debi. Many topical vapor products contain essential oils such as camphor and eucalyptus, which have the potential to produce gastrointestinal upset and central nervous system depression. And if this product were aspirated or inhaled in large enough quantities, respiratory irritation and pneumonia could result. Due to the high probability that your dog will ingest this product, and because it is not labeled for this intended use, we would not advise using this product on your Rottweiler. Instead, you should talk with your dog's regular veterinarian about an appropriate and safe method for keeping your dog from licking her wound. |
yep, camphor and natural menthol are in it ...so the camphor makes it a no go.... any suggestions for a replacement? |
Hi all, Noah is being treated for an upper respiratory infection. He was given an antibiotic shot. I went with the shot bc my work schedule doesn't permit 2x daily oral meds. Please continue to pray for a full recovery. His vitals were all normal as well. He hasn't coughed or brought up any liquids since earlier this morning. |

Good news. I hope he continues to improve. |
Hope the meds work for the little guy.... I guess keeping him warm and dry with plenty of fresh water is the best you can fo for him now!!! Keep us posted and hope to hear that Noah is feeling better soon! |
