frequent urination My 8 yr old female spayed yorkie suddenly started drinking and peeing more. We've been to the vet and had all the tests done which were neegative. She wants out every 20 minutes day and night! No sleep happening around here! The vet says it is physcosyematic but nothing has happened in her life to cause such a change. She also wants to eat nonstop. I also have a 2 1/2 year old rescued intact female with a severe liver shunt in the home. I am at my wits end and need help ASAP. Thanks |

But specifically did they cuktire the urine? Ultrasound? What test did they do to rule out cushings? Is the urine concentrating correctly? |
Your postive that they did the ACTH Stim Test on her?? |
Another condition to consider is Diabetes Insipidus. Insipidus Diabetes in Dogs | Diabetes Insipidus in Dogs | VCA Animal Hospitals |
Did they run any bloodwork? Lots of other things could cause this |
The only test we did not do is ultrasound as that test here is $800. I know they did a specific test for Cushings. Don't know what the name of that test was. I know my vet very well as I run a yorkie rescue from my home. He says it is not a bladder infection, not diabetes, not Cushings. He had her for an entire day doing tests. I think we are looking for something out of the ordinary. I've had yorkies for over 30 years and have never encountered this problem before. |
Have you changed foods or treats recently? |
The test that hopefully was done for Cushings is the Cortisol Creatinine Ratio Urine test - was that done for sure? Also, beware that's not a conclusive test - it's merely a tool used as guidance, not for conclusiveness. It sounds like you tested for Diabetes Mellitus, but you should consider testing for Diabetes Insipidus...it's rare, no doubt, but you never know and it may be worth all the extra effort to know for sure. Honestly, I'd still be tempted to do an ACTH Stim. Does she have *any* other random things/symptoms...like a pot belly, lethargy, hind leg weakness when jumping, muscle wasting, fur/hair loss, recurrent skin/ear issues, increased appetite / food stealing....anything? |
