trail of blood to paw , then constant licking. How to fix ??
 

Our Dusty was normal , as always , then , when under the duvet my wife said she was quieter than normal. A few minutes later Dusty went in to the other room to be on her own , looking all sad and forlorn with her ears flat and her tail between her legs.
I found her lying in the other room and there was a big splodge of blood about an inch wide , with about 4 or 5 other little stains.
We found that she was licking her lips a lot , but when offered some water , wasnt thirsty.
She's been licking it for about 10 minutes and I put her cushion on the beanbag in front of a little halogen heater. She lay down for a few minutes , but my wife , who was worried , came back in , and Dusty moved under a little table which is only about 1ft by 1 ft , and now she is right under my computer desk , lying in a spot where she never sleeps , but she obviously feels safe there.
I remember she did this similar thing right after we'd had her spayed , and at one stage went under the garden shed.

Anyone know whats up , and how to fix her back to her crazy self again ??
She is only 2 years old , and we've never encountered anything like this before , so its worrying.

Hi there, have you been able to look her over and find where she is bleeding? She probably needs to see a vet before the holidays a if she has a curt it could get infected easily. I hope she feels better soon.

It seems to be coming from her paw , but im mystified as to why its so distressful for her , and why she is hiding under things.

Just to complicate things , we are getting another yorkie tomorrow :rolleyes:

It seems to be her paw , in between her paw pads , but im mystified as to why its causing her so much distress and she is hiding under things , in strange places where she never goes.she went in behind my computer desk to be alone , even though she was sleeping in a really awkward position , but ive since managed to entice her back out with a few treats and she is lying on the beanbag in front of the heater again.

Is it gonna require a vet visit , or will it clear up on its own naturally ?

If she is hiding she must be in pain, I would really worry about infection, they are such little dogs that infections can make them very I'll. try to keep her eating and drinking. I am in UK so don't know much about the pain meds there, someone else will come along soon to advise if there are safe children's pain killers that will help her, but I really would think about getting her to a vet.

She is acting strange because it is painful. Has it stopped bleeding? Are you sure it is between her toes/are you sure she didn't tear a nail off?

yeah i think its stopped. she is sleeping , but when she wakes up , she is still a bit strange.
we are puzzled because we aren't aware of her chewing on any sticks or anything that would have given her a splinter , or anything that would have cut her. One minute she was normal , then out of the blue she just went all quiet and starting hiding and looking sheepish , which isnt like her at all , as she is usually full of life.
What would you advise we attempt to clean it with to stop any infection , until we get her to a vet , if we need to ?

I would have the vet take a look at it. Like Crystal mentioned she could have torn a nail or cut her paw. Please keep us posted.

She may have knocked a tooth out. You really need to find the site of the injury and make sure the bleeding has stopped. If you can't find it, then you need to have a vet look at her tonight, asap. Not all bleeding will stop on it's own, she may need stitches and/or meds. If her gums are light pink to white, get to the vet asap/now.

Many dogs will hide when something is wrong... this is one way they communicate to us.

we have a new problem now.
Dusty ( the bitch we have had for 2 years ) always slept with us.
We got a new Yorkie today. Gizmo , a male , and he wont go to sleep , and he's upsetting Dustys routine and keeping her awake now too.
They get on fine. Not overly friendly , but just gingerly sniffing each other , with the odd little growl from gizmo , but the sleeping thing is gonna be tricky to manage

Yep, new baby in the house, whole new routine, wee baby boy Gizmo is gonna take a while to settle in and Dusty is gonna be jealous for a while and wonder when this sometimes fun little friend is gonna go away again and let her have her hoomans all to herself. It'll all work out in the end. Glad the wee woman is feeling better, just keep an eye though.

yeah , I was expecting a lot worse....territorial disputes...fights....but its been ok .....until bedtime happened.
Ive had to put Gizmo in the kitchen on her own and right now can hear her crying and barking to get out , but eventually he'll go to sleep :rolleyes:
I'd prefer it if he slept with the rest of us , but it'll take time for him to adapt. I remember Dusty was the same when we first got her

he is two and a half Misty.
He was physically abused and we got Him from a rescue shelter

Ahh poor baby. So glad he has a wonderful new home and family.

Long story short.

we had to take the other yorkie ( the new one ) back to the rescue shelter because he was too vicious towards Dusty.

Dustys other paw is bleeding now. I used a magnifying glass , but I cant see whether its her pads , her nails ( which apparently have veins in ) , because her feet are so furry and she won't let us look at her foot.
The majority of days she is walked twice. About half a mile each time , but this morning when it started bleeding , she hadn't been for a walk. I'd just been kicking a tennis ball in the hall for her , and about 30 minutes later my wife said " Dustys paw is bleeding " and there was a stain about an inch wide on the towel my wife was holding her in , and some smears on my wifes arm.

Any ideas ? Its just weird that her right paw was bleeding about 2 weeks ago , and now its her left.
The right paw cleared up and she was licking it all the time , and i expect this one will be the same , but im just wondering what it could be.

I would take her to a vet and get them to look over her and u will feel better also . Keep us updated on her :D

We took her to the vet , and it turned out it was her Dew claw. Must have been too long , and she chewed it. Just discovered in the last few days that dogs actually have veins in their nails , so , for her , it would've been the same as cutting a vein on our arms.
Vet cleaned it , put some dressing and bandage on it , and Dusty lay around for a few days licking and licking and licking and licking and licking and licking and licking and licking and licking and licking and licking and licking and licking and licking and licking and licking and licking and licking and licking and licking and licking and licking and licking and licking and licking and licking and licking and licking and licking and licking and licking and licking and licking and licking and licking and licking and licking..........

Took the bandages off today and she is back to her mad self , barking at a leaf floating past the door , chasing the mop.....:D

I'm sure ur relieved lol, due claws can cause lots of problems , always be sure the nail is kept short , they catch into everything . Blankets , clothes, ect. The licking licking licking can annoy me sometimes too especially when I'm tryin to sleep :D but glad everything is ok now , happy new year :D
