Seizure Please help!!!! My 6 year old Biewer (3.8kg) is having what I think is a small seizure lately. It only last for a minute or so but it is so scary. She has never had them in the past. She gets this "spaced-out" look and will just stand and when I pick her up legs go wild. She does not shake but she does not respond to me when I talk to her. My vet said it is low blood sugar. What should I do when this happens? |
1 Attachment(s) Try Nutri-Cal ... I used to give this to Bentley to prevent low blood sugar when he was a baby, I attached a pic so you know what it looks like. Are you sure is low blood sugar though? Did you get an exam from the vet? I'm surprised your vet didnt recommend anything for it. |
If your dog has been eating fine and has been fine for 6yrs,I would think that it may be something besides low blood sugar. There are other things that can cause seizures in small dogs. I would suggest that a visit to the vet and blood work would be a good place to start. |
Thank you so much I will get some Nutri-cal. She was examined by my vet and her test came back normal that is why this is so confusing to us as she has allways been healthy and eating well. He thinks that it might by stress related although nothing in our house has changed except that we have had some severe thunderstorms and lightning but then again she was never afraid of thunderstorms in the past unlike my one Yorkie that reacts very badly to the storms. Could she be picking up on her fear? |
my Izzy had her first seizure about a month ago, at 5 years of age Her vet checked her blood sugar first along with everything from a cbc to bat and everything came back normal. She was started on phenobarb which seemed to work until we tried weaning her off it and she had another seizure. Of course we increased her to the original dose. You may just need to medicate her. I don't like medicating as a rule but sometimes there is no choice. I'd make sure you you a full blood panel and go from there. My vet and I have decided to see if keeping her on the original dose works. If it doesn't we'll be seeing a neurologist. So much for holiday bonus pay. Good luck with your baby. |
