there is something wrong with my puppy My 9 month old yorkie is having trouble getting comfy and laying down. He is continuously crying like something is hurting him. He keeps nudging his right hind leg with his nose. And he is not lame but he is definitely not himself. I can see he is hurting. He can walk fine and can even get down from the sofa. He won't play or run. He hasn't really eaten much, drank normally, or pooped. I called my vet about it and they said to call back first thing tomorrow so they can see him. Has anyone ever had these symptoms with their Yorkie? |
He is obviously in pain, you can either take him to the emergency vet tonight or if you wait until tomorrow I would grate him, keep movement as little as possible so there is no chance of making things worse |
I would get your pup to the vet. Sounds like he is in pain. Is he shaking? That can be a sign of pain. Crating him is probably a good idea to limit the movement until he is seen. Is there an emergency vet you could see? |
I called the vet and he said to bring him in tomorrow because we are in the middle of a snow storm. He has not been shaking at all. He finally is able to lay down and sleep. Before, he kept laying down and getting up unless I was holding him. |
Seriously? IF I had a vet who answered the phone on Sundays, I would expect to be seen if I told a story like you have told us. If this story is true, it is time for you to find a new vet. As to your pup, he needs to be seen by a vet now, not tomorrow. Continuous crying? I don't know how you can even sit and type through all of that. It would upset me enough to find a vet ASAP. Please get him to an emergency clinic NOW. Poor baby. :( |
Maybe there is a clinic close to you. I know travel during a storm is rough....take a look at this link. There is a number you can call: Palmyra, Colonial Park, Silver Springs Animal Clinics |
Yes, seriously. He answered the emergency line. It was very upsetting, why do you think I went on this forum for advice? Like I said, he is comfy right now. But, I did find an emergency vet close by and we are taking him. Thanks for the advice and I will keep updating. |
Please keep us updated. Prayers. |

Hopefully you were seen today and can update us with what the vet said. Praying your baby is ok. |
I also agree with a vet who is flexible. Our vet came to the clinic Thanksgiving morning. It was his idea too! Best to have someone like that on your side! Good luck. |
Toto is doing much better. The vet was concerned it might be a back issue or something going on in his abdomen. After x-rays and blood work, he determined that he has eaten something that has backed him up to the point of discomfort and pain. He gave him a shot for the pain, and some pills for the next few days and I am feeding him some pumpkin until his stools look normal again. I am also supposed to keep an eye for anything suspicious in his stool. He seems more comfortable and content. Hopefully this does the trick! |
Thanks for the update. I hope he is all better soon. |
Glad he is feeling better and him safely to the vet. We had 50 car piles up by me yesterday due to the terrible road conditions and many fatal accidents so I can understand reluctance to go out in bad weather and glad you were both ok. |
