My Puppy's Paws Are Scrapped and He Can't Walk. What Should I do? My girlfriend took our puppy out for a walk and he came back in with bleeding scraped paws. I washed his paws and put Neosporin on them. I held him for awhile but i tried to put him on the floor to use his potty. He's barley able to walk around and seems like he's in some pain. he also isn't using the potty. What should I do? |
Call your vet. |

Did she say what happened? Maybe something is embedded in the paws and causing pain. Maybe check with a magnifying glass? |
I have never been advised by a vet to do such a treatment...she would ask me to come in. If your vet did not see fit to advise you to bring him in, then you need to find another vet in my opinion! I would do that now...he is in pain and could end up with an infection if not handled properly. You need to keep those paws clean and yes, look for any debris...but personally, I would be at the vet. The paws are slower to heal on dogs because they must walk on them. He probably should have clean socks on...or be wrapped. |

Sounds like he might have something in his paws. Look under bright light. I would be worried about infection. If he is not walking because he is in pain, this is worthy of a vet visit. Be careful with the Neosporin. If he licks it, it can make him sick. |

In the future, should you still want to run with your pup, I would suggest you purchase shoes for him. I personally would not run with a yorkie, but I guess some do. We have a member who sells shoes: AllDogBoots Karen is awesome and can help you fit shoes for your pup. Her website is Dog Boots | Dog Shoes & Dog Booties |
It looks like she dragged him. There may be be debris in his paws that is too deep to see. Please take him to the vet. And I PRAY thay she was walking him with a harness and not a collar. |
Those paws need to be checked out by the vet. IF the pup has actually pulled or torn up a flap of skin on the paw, that does not usually come from running a short jog distance. That is in my opinion. |
Sorry......to me it sounds like the pup was dragged also. Sounds like it is painful and needs to be cleaned and some sort of covering put on at the very least. If all four pads are scrapped I would be pretty sure about the dragging. |

I certainly hope he wasn't dragged, if so, then to me this is just horrible.PLEASE get this dog to the Vet!!! |
If this puppy's paws are so bad that it hurts him to walk, he most probably will not leave them alone. I would think a vet visit is most certainly necessary and I'd also suggest not jogging with this little guy again. He obviously was either taken too far or too fast - whichever, it was way too much for him. |
It seems you have had alot of issues with having this new pup. Not sure when feed and take out to potty, then giving it a bath every day and then possible CT and now this pad issues. I have to ask have you ever had a puppy before??????? |
