Please help!! Hurry! GUM!!! My stupid roommate, for the second time, threw away gum in the garbage. of course the one trash my 6 pound 5 month old pup can get into. Ive told her mutliple times to not but doesnt do the trick. Anyways, he was chewing on a pink fruity gum with a silver wrapper. She has no idea the type, shes stupid, and i dont know what to do. He wasnt chewing it for long. It was already chewed and in a wrapper so its not like he got really get a hold of it. What should i do? Do you think hes ok? Its been 30 min and he seems fine. i called poison control and they said i need to find out the type so my boyfriend is at the store buying every time he can get that is pink to compare. I really think hes ok, but has anyone had a dog just lick a piece of old gum and get sick if it had xylitol in it?? please help im so scared |
I would call a emergency vet to see what they say, keep a close eye on him |
I would call my vet as mentioned above. In my opinion, it's always better to call then wait. I think they can give you the best advice. Sending prayers your little one will be fine. |
i called, they wouldnt give me a straight answer. One person said "watch him and see if his behavior changes." another said "bring him in". Im at a loss what to do. He was hyper but now hes laying down. i dont know if thats just him being a puppy who just played for 20 min or if hes not feeling well. |
If it was me, I would head to the emergency vet. I can tell you from my own experience it's better to take them in instead of waiting. My Mikki got sick and was almost put in to get IV fluids within 24 hours. I was glad I took her in when I did. I say head to the vet. |
How is your pup? Did you take him to the vet? Is he doing better/ok now? |
I hope your puppy is doing okay. I wouldn't panic about the gum. My friend's dog ate a whole pack of double bubble and he was fine. It's always good to double check with a vet though because it can't hurt to be careful. |
hope your puppy is doing ok |

Double bubble has normal sugar. I hope the OP's dog is ok. |
Thanks for checking back in. We ended up taking him in. They checked him all out and everything was fine. Better safe then sorry. Im assuming because the gum was already chewed, and he only had it for at most 2 minutes he was unharmed. Before going in, i read xylitol lowers blood sugar so i gave him a handful of cheerios to possible counteract the gum. Not sure if it was that, or the gum didnt have xylitol but he is A OK :) thanks for all your help and concern. oh btw, my roommate never bothered checking back in to see if he was ok. She hasn't been back to the apartment since except to park for class. incredibly sad but definitely an eye opener...she is no longer welcome in my home. |
So glad your baby is ok! |
