Princess fell off the stairs! 2 Attachment(s) 6-7 flights of stairs, she tumbled 3-4 x's & hit the wall.:(:(:( She lost one nail, completely torn off, didn't break any other bones TG. X-rays showed some inflammation on 2 toes, right 3rd toe had no nail & the bone embedding the nail is jagged, meaning some parts broke off.:(:(:( She bled everywhere, on my clothes, all over the floor (TG we have laminate flooring), she was still bleeding when we got to the vet office. The terry cloth rag I wrapped her paw was soaked w/blood.:(:(:( I\'m beyond guilt ridden & feel so bad for her. It was a freak accident, but I made her lose balance. My dad came over this morning & we were going down the stairs to greet him. I was holding Mimi & every-furry-body was running down the stairs. Princess was right in front of my foot when I was stepping down & I barely touched/ pushed her. This made her lose her footing on the stairs & she tumbled & rolled down, the wall breaking her fall. She didn\'t hit the wall hard & she even ran up to my dad to say \'Hi\'. But then I noticed the blood on the floor. It was complete chaos. Vet gave her pain injection along w/antibiotic injection bc she might be allergic to some antibiotics, like amoxicillin. He said she might not grow back her nail. No walking out side/ exercise for 3-4 weeks & prescribed rimadyl. Is rimadyl ok to give? I read on here that it\'s not good, too many bad side affects? I wasn\'t thinking clearly when I was @ the vet\'s...didn\'t get to drink my morning coffee. Going to search for rimadyl threads now...please say a little prayer for my baby girl Princess. I hurt my toe...Attachment 393686Attachment 393687 Mommy didn't get to brush my hair today... I went through the same thing w/Momo ripping his dew claw off awhile back. It grew back, but he freaks out when it's time to trim nails. @ least the dew claw doesn't hit the floor when they walk...poor Princess. |
Poor little sweetness!!! I'm sure she will be fine and I hope you will too!!! |
Poor little one. Sending prayers for a speedy recovery |
Poor princess :( how scary!! I hope she gets better soon. |
Poor little one! Try to not feel bad, accidents happen. |
Thank you for the get well wishes & prayers, Princess & I appreciate it so much! I just called the vet & asked him about the rimadyl & he said it's a very low dose & it will be safe for Princess, even tho she has a history of getting colitis. Since colitis is the inflammation of the large intestine/ colon, any rimadyl side effects will affect the stomach. It can be a problem if used long term & in high doses. He said to watch for any vomiting or diarrhea & to call. Princess moved from her bed to the floor, I think it's too warm for her. She's sleeping by my foot, my bad foot that pushed her off the stairs! |
OMG Jenny...how scary! Poor Princess :( I don't have a clue whether rimadyl is ok for the little ones but surely your vet wouldn't prescribe it if it weren't? Get well soon Princess! |
Omg! How terrible for baby Princess and you. I won't use Rimadyl. Are your stairs "naked?" We have wood floors and I put runners on every step (with rubber backing) because my first yorkie stumbled on the stairs and hurt her back. Good wishes being sent to you snd Princess for a speedy recovery. |
Poor little Princess, hope she feels better soon, :getwell: |

I tried not to google, but I read some threads here on YT about rimadyl & I'm scared:(...it can cause internal bleeding! The vet did stress to give w/a full meal. We have a runner on the stairs, so it's not slippery @ all. She just happened to be right in front of my (darn) foot when I stepped down. Thank you for your good wishes! |
Poor Princess! So sorry to hear of her tumble. You can't blame yourself for causing her tumble. These little buggers are always underfoot and these things happen sometimes. I can still hear the yelp in my mind from the time I stepped on Huey when he was a wee pup (before I learned the "yorkie shuffle") He was fine because as soon as I felt him under my foot, I fell to the ground in the opposite direction, and my dh materialized in front of me (from the basement!) screaming "what happened??!!" I would be very careful with the rimadyl, since it can cause stomach ulcerations, just like aspirin or motrin in a person. Unfortunately, an NSAID is what she probably needs for pain, so make sure she eats first, for sure. Maybe ask the vet if some carafate (sucrafalate) would be helpful in preventing stomach upset. I hope Princess feels better soon, and don't you fret yourself over something that wasn't your fault, it just happened. |

Max has been on Rimadyl three times without problem. Rimadyl has a bad reputation because it is the most prescribed pain med by a very large percentage, therefore the number of reports of side effects is larger. |

Oh Jenny...I am so sorry. What a scary thing. Thank goodness she is ok. As for the Rimadyl, I have used it with many pups over the years and never had a problem!! Rimadyl gets a bad rap as Kristin said. It is a very effective anti inflammatory. You will be using a low dose and short term...I am sure it will be just fine. Keep us posted on your little Princess! |
