My New Yorkie Puppy.. Is she sick? Please help! I've never had any experience of being a pet owner before so please don't judge :( I got my Yorkie from a pet shop on the 17th of Oct, she is 3 months old. They gave her her 2nd vaccination on the 13th of Oct. I've heard that vaccinations can give your puppy side effects, but only for 24-48 hours, right? Ever since I got her, her stools have been watery. The first two days, she finished all her food but this morning, she ate only half! I've been told to give her 1 tablespoon each time I feed her by the pet shop. Is this too much/little? Today (19th Oct), she's still having watery stools, but it isn't as watery as it was. She also does this weird choking sound when she's excited (when we let her out of the crate when I get home, when she sees food, when she's playing, etc.) I'm terrified as I love her to death. Please help? Should I bring her to the vet, or are these just side effects to her vaccination? |

She needs to be seen by a vet ASAP. It would be good to take a stool specimen with you when you go. Puppies this young can become dehydrated easily and diarrhea is nothing to mess with. They also can become hypoglycemic. As for the choking sound, it sounds like it may be a reverse sneeze which is really not an emergency. Sometimes you can stop it by holding your fingers over the nose....or by gently rubbing the throat. I will post a video below of it. If you can, get a video of her doing it to show the vet when you go. Please let us know how things are going. Welcome to Yorkie Talk. :) |
Welcome to Yorkie Talk. You've gotten the best advise already. Please take your baby to the vet and please keep us posted. |
Please take your baby to vet right away. I put my baby on the ground when I was moving and at about four/five months, he got parvo. (To this day, I regret putting him on the ground!) He is now eight months and has recovered. The vet said he recovered because I took him to see her...just in time! If I had waited any longer, he would not have lived. He started getting sick after his shots too and it just got worse. I rushed him in to the vet and they kept him for a week. I watched him behind glass (quarantined) as they gave him medicine, every day. He wouldn't eat for them, so I had to bring in some of his favorite treats (Cheerios) and ask them to hand feed him. I wasn't allowed to touch him and everyone that came in contact with him had to be sterilized. He was skin and bones by the time I got to bring him home and had to fatten him up with chicken. Good luck and please have a vet see that baby right away. |

Thanks for all of your help! I listened, and brought my Hashie to the vet this morning. She checked her temperature, stool and also fed her to see if she would eat. The vet isn't concerned and gave Hashie some meds. All she told me was to check her stool throughout the week. Thank you so much guys! |
It is always better to be safe than sorry, and taking her to the vet was the right thing to do. Hope she is feeling better soon. |
So happy to hear you took Hashie to the vet and that all is well. Definitely better to be safe than sorry! Hope she continues to do well. :) |
Good job at being a new Yorkie parent. You did the right thing by taking Hashie in right away. Welcome to YT! |
Hey guys! Just a follow-up. The vet recommended me to give Hashie i/D as her meals to help with gastrointestinal problems and also gave me some liquid medicine to feed her. At the vet, she ate all the i/D up! But when we came home, for dinner last night and breakfast this morning, she only ate half.. Sniffed it and walked away? |
