How much daily water needed? I'm fostering a 12 week old 5-pound puppy that is sick and taking doxycycline. She hasn't been eating and also stopped drinking in the last 2 days. She just started her meds yesterday and the vet said to just wait it out. I've had the dog since last week and I kept complaining (to the organization), that I was certain the dog had kennel cough but they kept saying a vet would get back to me. When she became lethargic and refused to eat I brought her in demanding she be checked and sure enough, she has kennel cough and an infection. I only have a 1ml syringe and that is the only way I have been able to get liquids in her. She now does not drink from her bowl but is happy to drink from the syringe. How many ML should I make sure she gets? |
For adults it is 1oz per pound daily on average. Obviously it can vary quite a bit. Not sure if the same goes for pups. But if it does...if pup is 2 pounds then 2 ounces would be about right. A cup is 8oz, so that would be 1/4 cup for 2 oz. There are 5mls in a tsp., 3 tsp. in a tbls., and 4 tbls. in 1/4 cup. Let me see if Google will convert for me. lol Surprised they gave doxy to a pup. I'd disagree with the vet about waiting out nondrinking, But as long as she wil take it from you that sounds ok. Will she eat canned food? |
Approx. 60mls in 1/4 cup... |
