Found a deer tick on Leo! While walking Leo, he had picked up a stick and was running around with it. I bent down to take the stick out of his mouth and noticed a tiny brown looking wart on his nose, looked closer and yep a tick. Got home, and yanked it out. Poor Leo yelped when I pulled it out.. and I felt really bad..When I saw the whole tick, I realized it was indeed a deer tick. The tick must've just got in his nose, because it was still very small and flat. I called my vet anyways and she told me just to keep and eye on him, and even if they did test him nothing would show up because it takes 2 months for the lymes disease to affect the body. I'm being a worry wart over here. |
May sound silly, but do you still have the tick? My doctor once had me save the tick so that the tick itself could be examined for Lyme. I hope Leo is okay! I'm definitely going to do the optional Lyme Disease vaccine. Since those ticks are around maybe you should check if it could still be a good idea. |
I hope that everything is well with Leo! I'm sure that you were sooo happy to have found it so soon:) Good idea to keep the tick. Should I have any problems with my Bailey being bit, it has certainly given me the heads up to keep what ever it is that bit him. Great advice! |
Poor little Leo!! Those things hurt especially when pulled off! I live in the country in Texas where we have plenty of them. In fact my husband picked one off of him after giving our horses hay a few weeks ago. We were actually in the swimming pool store buying chemicals when he found it. I was sorta embarrassed because he kinda yelled it out that he had a tick on him. He's country!! I probably would have Screamed! Gives me chills thinking about it. Did your vet tell you what to look for cause I wouldn't know????? |
