My little sweet runt is not eating :( I am hoping to get some advice from someone has ever had a mother not like one of her puppies. He is very teeny and has a hard time sucking anyway. I am not sure that she is negelecting him but I just know that he has to be fed. I find him under the covers of her bed and today she took him into my closet and left him behind some clothes when I was changing the covers on her bed. She may have been in the process of moving them all but there is just something weird going on with her and this poor little sweet baby. I have a book that recommends tube feeding but have no clue what to do??? I appreciate any advice and will do anything to keep him, I had already decided that I want him for my very own. By the way these pups were born via csection day before yesterday. Thanks |
Usually when a mother rejects her babies is because she knows there is something wrong with it and I'm sorry but the puppy usually dies. You could try to keep him warm, feed him every 1 1/2 -2 hours. I would speak to your vet, putting a tude down his throat into his stomach is not for someone that doesn't have any idea how to do it. You will hurt him. Call the emergency vet and bring him in. |
Please Please be very careful and contact your vet to see what you can do for this little baby. It sounds like she knows something isnt right with him. Sorry:( |
.I would try to bottle feed the puppy. It sounds like the mother is rejecting it |
your little boy needs to be fed every 2-3 hours you need to get esbilac and begin syringe or baby bottle feeding him feeding him immediately. Call your vet for assistance if you do not know how. You mom is pushing him away because mother nature is telling her he isnt going to make it. You need to be very deligent keeping him warm and feeding him yourself if there is any chance of survival. hope this helps |
 to all the advice above. Especially the vet visit to learn how to do it... |
One thing I remind people to think about is this...when we say keep the baby warm, we need to remember that mom has a body temp of 101 or higher.. So keep him really warm. Has he been seen by the vet? Does he have a heart problem? Resp. problem? Cleft palate? There are so many reasons why the runt or tiniest puppy is so small and all to often it is a birth defect or similar problem..Kimberly is right about diligence and feeding regularly and peeing and pooping the baby. But, a vet visit, remembering to keep the baby really warm inside your top is my fav place, is in order..Good luck with the teensy one... |
Any word on Murphy? The rejection by the mom is usually a sign. I sure hope he makes it though. |
Oh Im so sorry to hear that this little one is having trouble. I agree with everyone else about bringing him to the vet ASAP. Good luck to you and keep us posted on his progress. God Bless! :getwellso :lovewings |
I have also been watching this thread and hoping for good news about this little one. |
I think if there was good news she would have posted by now!! :cry8: |
Oh, golly!! I hope she is just really busy feeding and peeing and pooing the baby..maybe the news will be good... |
Oh boy. The heartaches of breeding :( |
When a mother rejects her babies is because she knows there is something wrong with it and will only care for the healthy babies she will continue to push it away from the others. The baby needs to be kept warm and feed every 2 hours.I would see a vet as soon as you can. good Luck .please keep us posted. Ill keep him in my thoughts and prayers. |
I reallly hope an update comes soon on the little one....I hope also that she doesn't give up on him....When Lizzy was born I got alot of PM's saying that she needed to be put down and now I look at her sleeping and Thank GOD I kept at it because she has become such an important part in my life....it would have been such a waste to give up on her! |
The Original Poster was online at 10 PM last night and didn't post to any threads. In fact, she hasn't posted since 12/30/05. I guess I won't be checking on this thread any longer. |
I think some people forget that we really DO care and want to know the outcomes of these situations. We rejoice with the good ones, and grieve with the bad ones. Please, if you are there, let us know..... |
Bet I am not the only one... I PMed JLisaLo and asked her to update. Hope she does! :( |
Thanks Glad. I hope she lets us know...good or bad. |
Sorry  I am not sure what happened but I posted on Saturday evening. Maybe it was in the breeder talk, heck I cannot even figure out how to put a picture of my babies on here... I am very sorry, I do appreciate everyone's concern. [QUOTE=Jaspermom]Did he make it? Just wondering. It would be good if you could update the thread you began because others are curious too. If it is too painful for you, we all understand, but if you would let us know that would be nice. Hello everyone: Just an update: Murphy seems to be fine to me but the vet says he probably won't make it due to the fact that she thinks he looks unhealthy. She says that we won't be able to tell until he's 4 or five months old, but I think he is just teenie and will be like his Mommy who is only 3.2 pounds. I happen to believe that he is gonna be just fine! Right now he weighs around 3oz, the biggest one weighs twice that but there is a 5oz and a 5.5 oz brother as well. I will keep this updated and thanks everyone for your concern, please remember my sweet little Murphy in your prayers, he went thru alot to get here and I know he will make it thru this too. Sorry again guys, I will just copy and paste to each forum that way I don't hurt anyone's feelings or make them think I don't care.. Lisa |
Thank you for the update on Murphy. I will keep him in my thoughts and prayers. I hope he makes it. I also hope that the mom and the others pups are doing fine. |
Thanks Lisa...I am relieved....I hope he keeps fighting and you keep a close eye on him. Sometimes these little ones just need a little extra...ya know....my vet didn't think Buddha would make it and he is 15 months and very healthy. Will keep thinking positive thoughts for this little guy! |
I just stumbled on this site, and would also appreciate being kept informed. I learn so much from this group. Thank you! Kate |
