Max sick? Hi all havent posted in a long time just wondering if anyone has any ideas about my yorkie. He has sensitive sick and we've been feeding him Hills science salmon+potato hills kibble and canned food for a while now. We decided to try natural balance products since you dont need to but them from a vet. He was good with it venison+potatoe for a few months nothing unusal no more itching or scratching. Then we changed to a vegan kibble and thats when things changed he started waking up at 2am to have to pee. Then the scratching more and licking of the paws and his wee wee and drinking lots of water all the time. So we figured that the food is obviuosly the issue we changed him back to hills science diet salmon+potato and he still is drinking lots of water and waking up in the nite and having to pee for a while. I spoke with our vet and she said to keep and eye on him and call her if needed, my wife is worried so before i call and take him in thats why im posting for any help thanks |
Could be many different things from simple to complex. Sounds like he needs to be seen by the vet and urine and blood tests done. Please keep us posted. |
I would call the vet. They might want to check a urine sample. |
Update took Max in for check and wow found out he may have diabeates vet did urine sample test and took blood waiting for results. Been down in dumps all day, hope shes wrong...... |
I am sorry you are down. Try to keep your thoughts positive until you know for sure. What I can tell you is that I believe dogs with diabetes are not so difficult to manage. I will say prayers tonight for you and for Max. |
I hope it's not diabetes. My brother had a dog with diabetes and she did fine. |
praying for good news |
Praying for Max and for you. Please keep us posted with the results of his tests. |
Well we found out for sure looks like he has diabetes |
Crap I tried to edit the above message and no luck so im reposting a new one. When max got his blood test back it showed he has 23 sugar content in his blood. The vet said that he has an inflamed pancreas and liver and we need to get the sugar under control 1st. He went in yesterday for a insulin shot and was there the whole day they checked his sugar and it was 27 then went down to 17 later in day. He came home along with a new veggie type of food, from Hills Science Diet. At 8pm my wife gave him another shot and he now doesnt have to go out for a pee as often. This morning he got another shot we checked his blood before eating and after and it was 23 then 22. The Vet called this morning to ask how everything was going. The wife is going to check the sugar later in morning to see where hes at.. |

Hope Max is doing well. I think if you can get his blood sugar at the right level, things will be much easier for all. |
How is Max today? |
Hi again its been a few days now and I guess the biggest thing is we trying to get his sugar down as we have started with 5 units of insulin and his sugar has gone as low as 14.9 and on average is about 17.5. We showed results to vet and she says we have to wait about a week which is this Friday. Then he goes in for the day again and she will monitor him with a higher dosage i guess. He has more spunkiness to him and seems ok my wife is the needle expert as im trying to get used to it... Im looking into find cheaper needles as they are 56$ for 100 from vets going to check wallymart....Thank god that my friends that is a diabetic type 2 had a glucose meter and test strips that hes given me but he doesnt need injections, and hes been our guide and support.. |
Sounds like you are getting to be a bit more relaxed with this. I am so happy to hear it! I am sure things will be fine once you can get his blood sugar regulated. Thanks so much for keeping us updated! :) |
Im not really too relaxed we both have been on edge and my wife more ...we axious to get him to Friday vets appointment. We need to get that sugar down which is still averaging about 17 which is too high... |
Will continue to pray that he gets better and better. Let us know how Friday goes. Hugs |
Well people its been a bit but Max has been through a bunch of tests and even an Ultrasound which by way cost us 700$ and hes been checked for cushings, cancer, addisons, liver diasease, etc etc. So far hes got pancreatis and somthing similar to irratible bowel syndrome. Hes been on a strict diet for 2 weeks now and goes back to vet for another glucose curve....this thursday...more$$$$$ By the way for anyone needing pet supplys I found this site thats great for needles for max not sure about rules of this site but heres the link,,Veterinary Supplies, Medical & Podiatry Products at best prices Helped me find syringes cheap and lotsa other stuff there |
Wishing you and yours all the very best in getting control of the diabetes. Positive thoughts coming your way from Canada:):) |
update Max is a 5year old Yorkie Poo that as of Aug/2013 has been diagnosed with diabetes. We as his parents myself recently unemployed, have indured a long process of testing, xrays ultrasounds, and sugar curving tests that has cost us thousands. Just recently he has been diagnosed with Cushings Disease that has started out to leave open sores throughout his body. We've been told that if we dont treat him these sores will encase his whole body and cause his death. We love him like our son and its emotionally draining to see him go through this. We cant give up on him but we are needing thousands of dollars to help continue his care. |
